U Americans are lucky! Most Canadian gas pumps have a sticker on them that says: "may contain up to 10% ethanol," or "contains 10% Ethanol"

I've never noticed that sticker in Quebec, but see it all over the USA.

On a 14 hour trip within Canada recently traveling at 110kms per hour my scan Gauge gave me an average fuel reading of 44.9mpg to 45.2mpg,which is exactly what it read on a recent drive to NYC, so i guess there isnt any difference between Canadian and American gas formulations, however my brother who lives in Florida says my high mpg figure is due to a larger Canadian gallon,i try to explain we do liters,i just have the Scan Gauge set to read in MPG
Personally i think he's secretly jealous as his Dodge Duellie might get 10mpg if the wind is blowing in the right direction. |

Canada does use the metric gallon to calculate MPG. US gallon = ~3.8 liters metric or UK gallon = ~4.5 liters That's what your brother is talking about.

So am i getting 45mpg or something else?usually when i'm in the states and filling up at American gas stations my American made Scan Gauge set to display mpg still registers around 45mpg,so where does this US gallon and UK gallon make a difference?Am i getting 45mpg US or 45mpg cdn? or am i missing the point?

It depends on how the Scangauge gets it's info. If the computer is delivering the fuel usage in liters, you're probably seeing US MPG unless the Scangauge is set for UK gallons. Check the Scangauge's manual.
Can you set your gauge to L/100KM? Then you could do the conversion to see which gallon the scangauge is using. |

What was your average speed? Did you use A/C most of the time?
