a question for those with tinted windows...

greetings everyone: for increased comfort and security purposes, we are planning on getting some mild window tints. however, my wife loves how quickly the rear-defogger works (in comparison to my old civic and her old avalon). the question is: will tinting the rear window adversely effect the rear-defogger?? will defogging times slow down, or will the defogger cause unsightly bubbles?? thanks for any experience and input you guys can provide. oh, is there anything we should be looking for when browsing for tinting shops, such as warranties, materials, etc...??

I've heard that some metal tint films can actually aid a defogger by conducting the heat across the window better. But this is what I've heard... don't take my word for it!

most tint shops have lifetime warranty on work, if installed properly there wont be any bubbles, i have worked as a tinter in past and never had any issues. It will not have an adverse affect on the defrost, never heard of it speeding it up but it makes sense since a good tint does contain metal, not dye. You will not have any problems, find a shop with lifetime warranty on thier work, most do.

I have the cold weather package with the defogger on the rear and my rear window is tinted.

If it makes you feel any better, I havent seen the ground this month (it has snowed that much) and I've had the rear defogger on pretty much all month. No issues here.

Get a warranty JIC... even if its a few extra bucks. I used mine already!

hi everybody, i'm working for my dad, we own a window tinting shop here in Georgia, and Please DON'T BELIEVE LIFETIME tint, because there is no tint that is last for life, they said LIFETIME that actually cost you about $50 to $60 dollars more for that, the tint will last for about 10 years the most. Any other questions feel free to ask, i'd been working on window tinting for 5 years now.

On your Yaris the most expensive you will pay for your tint job is $140 to $160 dollars the most, we used Solard Guard the same as 3M will last for at least 10 years. Don't pay for anything more than that or else you get jack.

very good heads up. i was expecting that price range since the liftback has so little window surface area to actually tint! thanks again everyone...

ok, i have to speak on this. I have tint done at Xtremetint in California. Cost is in the $100 area with high quality 3M tint that will not turn purple, bubble,or fade. they installed it perfect no bubbles, but the guy told me not to use the rear deffoger. It has a Lifetime warranty. Lifetime in reference to the "lifetime of the car." Considering that people get rid of thier cars after a few years anyways, thats why they say lifetime warranty. double check with the dudes. I was advised against it.

You can use your rear deffoger with no problems, i am really don't see anything wrong for not use your rear deffoger. I had more than 40 peoples in my family including aunties and uncles and nephews cousins.... more than 40 cars, all different brands nothing wrong with the tints we used at all, we kept our cars for more than 6 years almost.

Again Solar Guard, Protect Guard or 3M is the great Brands. but none of them will last for Lifetime.

The tint will last for about 10 years if you use water to clean on the tint or soap and water mix together, not Windex or any Other Chemicals out there that said SAFE FOR TINT, it's not at all.

And one more thing, 3M is very expensive brands i dont see how they did it for your car for a price of $100 dollars.
