Front end still looks weird, but better than before.

Good photos! Not that bad looking.

As fugly as the front end is, it actually looks somewhat better than the previous grillework.

That light grey seat upholstery is not good, though. Should have just continued with the darker grey.

The alloys are kinda girly.

Toyota's design sense is just a BIG disappointment.

Probably removed beforehand so no one would steal it. Dealers are now doing that on their showroom floors as well.

yeah, that's how i got my SI shift knob for my honda 13 years ago when i was a hoodlum child. i went into the parts department to buy one, but then they told me it was $165. (i was prepared to pay up to $70) i told them they was crazy, the knob was not worth that kind of money and they were trying to rip me off. i walked out to the lot and took one out of a car. i was such a terrible person...
(i have only stolen from multi-million dollar corporations. i have never stolen from mom&pops or individuals)

I actually kinda like Toyotas new design language. When i took a seat in the 3.rd gen Yaris at a local dealer i was surprised how small and unpractical the inside was though. That said i like the interior of the 2.nd gen a lot better.

I like the front. The rear still looks ugly to me.

That's funny, when I first saw the new Yaris a few months back, I saved this photo in my file.

So, I guess we both saw basically the same thing.

Ironically, the 2018 refresh looks better from the front on the non-SE trim pictured, without the over styled bug-eyed Projector/Led headlights, the goofy fog light housing chrome trim fangs, and the honeycomb piano finish gaping front grill design. Pretty sad when those dated 1995 L/LE halogen reflector-housing headlights are actually better looking than the new SE versions. This latest version Yaris has more of a fish face, and now looks related to the iA.

The 2018 does look good from a straight-on rear view, with that wider (looking) stance, but the shorter up-and-down length taillights are oddly bulging and out-of-place at various side angles (as pictured in that first shot).

No way would I select the 2018 (SE) refresh version over a better-equipped iM at this point, especially since both can be purchased at the same price point. Literally the only reason to select the Yaris/SE over the IM would be get the 4-spd automatic instead of the CVT automatic. Here's to hoping the next-gen (?) Yaris in 2021 (?) gets it mostly right.

^^^ I agree with your comments and rationale.

At this point, I have little confidence that Toyota can get anything right design wise. Pathetic IMHO.

Yaris 2-door hatch 2018 design changes Mind of Toyota

Should be a case study in marketing guys messing up design. 2007 hatch was by outside firm. Notably functional, with rounded theme in overall and detail. Notice how they continue to add creases and edges--the C-pillar mod.
But the worst is continued use of style w/ no function... large area of FAKE grill.
The whole industry is at Detroit circa 1959--tailfins, chrome larded quarters and complicated faces. Is C-HR the Edsel? (note the wacky tv ads that manage to avoid showing any view of it for more than half a second...particularly the nose.)
