2008 Sedan - AC Compressor Flywheel

Hey all

I just noticed today my sons 2008 Yaris sedan, the AC compressor, what looks like the AC compressor flywheel came off (and lucky it was just sitting on the splash guard) . And looks like it just screws back on..

Has anyone have this happen to their AC unit?... But not sure the torque amount to tighten it too... I attached a web pic of the unit and its the end part in the red circle .

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

That is actually a big nut that holds the pulley in place on the compressor. We've never seen it happen before and now you are the second person this year to have found it lying in the splash guard.

sorry to say this, but i see compressor pulleys fly off a lot, the reason? compressor is going out... they have some wobble to it and the front snout is going out so not to scare you but you might want to save up for a compressor, if it still works then tighten it up and send it away

Three days I go, I was able to find a tool that is used for like tightening on grinder wheels to a grinder..

I held the pulley with a strap wrench, applied some blue Loctite, and tighten the flywheel on as hard as I could...

So far.. its still on!.. hopefully it stays that way!!

WOW, excellent find. Looks like the steel disc is just a protector for AC pulley that is plastic. This explains a lot how it works and fits together.
