i spoke to a dealership rep yesterday and he said the VIP alarm system doesn't come with an engine immobilizer (guess that's why it has to be a factory installed option). the bottom line for the VIP alarm seems to be that the thief can start the car, but the sirens will be going off. if you see a black liftback with alarms sirens blasting going down the road, call the police since someone prolly just stole my wife's car...
