Ive got this noise. Did you have to drop the engine to get the pump out?

First I've put car on jack stands. There is 2 bolts and 1 nut. The nut is right under engine mount. You will need a long extender with 14mm socket. So remove nut first. Then place your floor jack and pump it until it hold engine a little bit. Then remove 2 bolts from the top. Also 14mm.

You can actually replace the water pump without removing the engine mount. Remove the screw that mounts the AC pipe holder and slide the holder towards the front of the car. Once you do that you have room to remove the pulley and then the pump itself.

Thank you scott, I'll try to go that route. I loosened my belt and the noise went away but I know the bearing is probably damaged. If a warm day comes around I'll swap it out.

Drat, I missed the 10th anniversary of this thread's last post.

At any rate, to any fellow internet searchers trying to identify that sound, our 2009 Yaris with a 1NZ-FE made this exact sound. It was the water pump. I replaced it and the sound completely went away.
