belt squeak

Yaris 2014 LE Hatchback 2-door

Can't get rid of the belt squeak when starting the car.

Used 2 different brands of belt dressing. It goes away for a day, then comes back.

Difficult to tighten the belt the way the system is designed (one has to pull the alternator forward, takes a lot of strength).

Got any suggestions I could try?

i changed my belt a few weeks ago. i used toyota oem belt. its this on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SKRNF8

my car is 2008 hatchback

its true pushign the alternator forward is difficult. however did you loosen up the bolt at the top on the alternator 'slide' AND the one at the bottom? I found doing that gives it enough movement.

after the belt is in, you tighten the bottom one, and then push the alternator foward with a bar. the key is to have something heft...i used this bar i found randomly on the street one day (it called to me saying 'you will need me some day..plus it was yaris blue). well that very bar was used to leverage the alternator forward.

i positioned the bar slanting forward touching the alternator and a safe point of contact underneath. i think i threw in a tshirt there to not scratch up the metal. then in stead of pulling on it, i stood next to it (left shoulder against it) grabbed it with left hand, and leaned forward my body, that was ultimate leverage

this frees up my right hand which i can then tighten the nut on the alternator slider.

or you can have a friend do one of either part.

its all about the shoulder 'fall into' leverage and oem part lol

I went through the same as I did not believe the posts here about the squeaking belts. My car mechanic was already desperate. I tried 3 belt brands (Continental, Gates and something else). They all squeaked, regardless the tension. Changed the pulleys. Nothing helped.
Then I bought the original Toyota belt. Aaaand... the squeak is gone. Right after the change.

Save your time and bucks and go straight for the Toyota belt.

There is a thing with Toyotas, if you turn the ignition on then IMMEDIATELY start the engine, you'll get alternator squeak.

If you turn the ignition on, wait 3 seconds, THEN start the engine, no squeak.

My guess is extra time for the software to get to the alternator regulation.

This 3 second break did not help me with my squeak. Only the Toyota belt did.
