I just looked at the online inventory (chose new car option each time) for the two dealerships closest to my house, Fred Haas Toyota World and Gullo Toyota. Fred Haas Toyota World has 18 Yari -- 16 - 2014s and 2 - 2013s. Gullo Toyota has 26 Yari -- 19 - 2014s and 7 - 2013s. All 44 of these Yari include the VIN# in the description. The VIN# on each of the 44 starts with a J. IIRC, this indicates assembly in Japan. Are all of the North American bound 2014s from the plant in France headed for Canada and Mexico?

It is only October...I would imagine most dealers still have 2013 inventory. I lucked out buying the 2013 with the standard upgraded stereo, it is darn decent enough for this aging guy, LOL - the iPod hook-up is GREAT - the 2014 added standard daytime running lights, no biggie... this car has been awesome, 4,630 miles and counting...

My findings have been gnawing at me (even though, I know, it is only October ), so I decided to do a '2014 french built USDM Yaris' search on the DuckDuckGo search engine. I didn't uncover any new information re the 2014 USDM Yaris, but I did find a post in the comments section of the article on thetruthaboutcars.com site (hit #7 on the search). A reader posts about traveling to France and the joy of driving a 6 speed manual turbo diesel Yaris . In the U.S., we can only dream .

Hmm did you know that "six speeds" means absolutely nothing? As long as the ratio of the top gear is the same that's all that matters. I've even heard it said more speeds means more shifting means LESS mpg. Thus a three speed with the same gear ratio in top gear will get better mpg.

Have we had this conversation?

I would like a diesel too but nothing over 600 cc's!

This car, and people hankering for it, may have been mentioned on another thread, but not (I don't believe) the particular comment I found. I guess I just really want to drive one. I know, the ratio for the top gear is all that matter for highway MPG, but that extra gear can make a climb into the mountains more pleasurable. I guess I'll just have to go to France (I missed Mont Saint-Michele and Versailles, but returning has been pretty far down on my bucket list).

Speaking of 600ccs, I remember the little 600cc cars that Honda sold in the U.S. at some point during the 1970s. People could park those things just about anywhere. Quite a bit smaller than a CRX, IIRC.

Yep, and the area around the back window was thick and black (rubber? tape? paint?...can't remember) no matter the color of the car. I remember Orange and Yellow as two of the offered colors for the car....can't remember any others.
