Single DIN radio and Metra 88-00-8000

I did a little searching before posting, but I couldn't find anything about it.

I want to mount a single DIN CD player with a full DIN pocket (like the Metra 88-00-8000) in the dash and I've got a few questions.

1. Do the radio brackets allow for this?
2. Has any one done this before?
3. Has any one put their Bluetooth mic somewhere just below and how is the sound quality?

What I'd ultimately like to do is put my ScanGauge and Bluetooth mic mounted into a plate sitting in that DIN pocket.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

No it won't work. The 88-00-8000 is square on the corners and is used on older Toyota vehicles where the dash usually fits over the pocket. The 99-8216 is made for the Yaris. It srill has a decent size pocket but not full din.

Got it, thanks for the reply.

Any idea if anyone has tried to stuff a ScanGauge in one of those?

Not personally. If nobody else here knows I can measure the pocket on one tomorrow. I manage a stereo shop.

Schweet. I'll take my ScanGauge in with me tomorrow so I can get you some dimensions.

No go. Height is only 28mm. It is 7" wide and 5" deep.

Thanks for the quick response. For the sake of simplicity, I'll probably just go with that for now.

I may end up picking up a second one (since they're relatively cheap) and taking the ol' Dremel to it to make it fit and then coming up with some kind of a faceplate to hide the ugly.

Getting back to the second part of my question: Anyone put their Bluetooth mic in the pocket below? How's the sound quality?

Also, does any one know what Crutchfield supplies with their single DIN radios? I'm looking at picking up the Kenwood KCD-X994 and I'm hoping that they'll give me the Metra kit we've talked about.

We have put the mic there before in other cars but not a Yaris. It works pretty good but I prefer the top of the A pillar. I can't remember what kits Crutchfield uses but I know it is not Metra unless they have changed recently. I am looking foward to playing with the new Kenwood 994. We just got the 794 today but are still waiting for the 994. Have you checked your local stereo shop? Crutchfield is retail on the radio but they give you the kit and harness free. Any local shop can BEAT that price. I personally match almost any price on the internet. I would rather make a sale and make a little money than no sale at all. Also if you have a problem they can swap you for a new unit on the spot.

The "free" dash kit Crutchfield gives out with single din HUs is Metra's single din kit (99-8216). You can ask them to give you American International's single din kit though (TOY-K969) which IMO is higher quality and just fits better.
