Another one bites the dust....
Well, sad but true, my little red JellyBean got squished today.
Happliy, the driver (moi) is fine. Pics below. The final (crappy) cellphone pic shows where I finished up. I had been crossing, on a green light, from the direction of the cop car, and a guy in a Toyota Sienna van ran the red, hit me where the scrunchy is, and spun me up the road into the ditch. And lucky, too, coz that large lamp-post you might be able to make out is right at the intersection. If he had hit me a little squarer he might have just thrown me into it, driver-side first. I calculate from the tire tracks that I went 70-75 feet up the road, and performed what was probably a pretty ragged 450-degree spin. Engine runs fine, rims are all shot except driver rear, and the driver himself is a little shook up. I'll be going to see my own doctor shortly just to be safe. So - question is - re-build or am I looking at a new car here? Rockland, any thoughts? |

i would say thats new car territory. given the suspension damage and possible frame damage, the car would never drive the same again. glad to hear your safe though, its unfortunate it happened.

Wow, glad you are ok of course. Looks like it held up pretty good for being pushed up the street about 75 feet. Looks like suspension work, body and wheels. Hard to tell until you get it looked at. My guess is around $5000. But what do I know, lol. You always said you'd run it into the ground (if I can remember, might not have been), why stop now lol. Again, glad the impact wasn't worse and you are here to tell the story. Hope the Dr gives you the good word.

New car and buy back the old one, keep the motor and trany and any valuable parts then have the body towed to a metal scrap yard and get about $400 for it.
Buy back for the car shouldn't be more then $800. definitly more then $5000 in demage, the frame is most likely bent, new rear suspension looks like might be needed. and underbody might be scraped up pretty bad |

yikes..... lets hope the damage hasnt gone into the car's body frame... it probably has though ;[
These cars are quite the troopers but cause they are so small the more gets damaged in a smaller area.... My wreck was 3k that what it cost me to fix my front driver's side suspension and bodywork.... keep in mind that some bits wernt replaced, merely just remolded back into shape. how fast did he hit you?

This should definetly be new car territory though. There are worse things to lose than 3 wheels (life + well being) in an accident so I guess things arent all bad!

You're okay, that's what really matters
Can't count how many of these threads I've seen. It oughta be a law where the other driver should have their license torn-up for hitting a Y, especially if they're driving a bigger vehicle

Glad your ok i would say new car. But you know how insurance is they always try to cut corners and save money where they can. Just pull your parts off the car so you can sell them or put them on your new yaris. Hopefully we don't lose you as a member

Judging from the picture looking from the back, it seems to have digned the frame in between the pillar and the rear wheel. That may make it difficult to align properly in the future.
If the insurance wants to total, go for it and take an 09. Put your factory wheels back on before they take it away and sell the 1 good rim. Take the proceeds from that and get some accessory on the new one. (or buy a lottery ticket!) You walked away and that's great. Considering that the van could easily be more than 2x your weight, you did pretty well. Best wishes and keep us posted... Last edited by SpaceShot; 04-02-2009 at 03:31 PM. Reason: signoff |
