Cold Air Intakes
Hi,
Just wondering if they are legal or illegal in Australia?. I did look around and some people say they are legal as long as its covered somehow or as long as its well secured it's fine. But i'm not to sure of the law here. Thanks

acually it is illigal to have a CAI. The filter has to have a cover.

Plenty of cars have it here in Perth. Just have to be careful in the rain.
Im planning to get one on my yaris one day. |

It's illegal if you don't put the filter in a airbox, other than that you should be right. Best to make a nice, big one with a nice big intake going to the front of the car, that way your filter is shielded from hot engine bay air and is gulping all that lovely cold air being pushed into it as the car moves along.

So we have to create a custom box to house the cai? just so that the coppers dont pull us. Wouldnt that defeat the whole purpose of having a nice open cai.
What about sri? |

You could use your original box and have pipes leading to the bumper. At least when you accidentally drive into puddles you wont get hydro-locked. Also you can change your panel filter to one of the K&N replacements.

FYI to you Aussie folk, the Simota CAI has a heat-shielded filter...problem solved.
And no chance of hydrolock (or even CELs from wet filters). I know there are a few scattered Simota dealers in Australia but if you can't find one I'll be happy to ship to you. Even with postage it's still less expensive than most intakes. I'll do $165.00 shipped to Australia. PM me if you are interested. These are for the Liftback and will fit the Sedans as an SRI (dunno what you call the sedan there, though). |

lolz... they would be like "You said something explicit about the NSW police department, we shall take you and give you a nice big fine"
Honestly, all the cops do is friggin fine. It should be more like india, where if a copper catches you, you give him some bribe and wallah!!!! you drive like a king |

doing a CAI on the yaris is no point. waste of $$$. unless you have tuned the engine for it. This is my just my own experience, if you after style n noise then go for it...

Anyway, who stops at just an intake? Once the modding starts, it's hard to stop. |
