Clutch Master & Slave Cylinder
Has anyone change a master & slave cylinder. My clutch is getting soft and I tried bleeding the slave cylinder. After the bleeding procedure it works for about 1-2 weeks and now is soft again
I know how to change the slave cylinder but what about the master cylinder, its kind of hard to get it out with little space |

How many miles do you have on the car? What does the fluid look like?

The time i did the slave bleeding procedure the clutch biting point was strong, but after a couple of weeks the clutch feels soft and the biting point seems to slip a little bit. So i thought maybe it could be the slave cylinder, anyway I bought the slave and master since i'm replacing almost every part of my car. I drive pretty much 2000+ miles a month I don't see any leak from the slave cylinder or the master cylinder, the reservoir is the same, it hasn't change. Can it be air getting through the slave cylinder? Last edited by duendeverde; 01-02-2015 at 11:39 AM. |

That seems like low mileage to be having cylinder problems. I didn't replace the master and slave cylinder on my Nissan Hardbody till 250k miles. The fluid can make a big difference though. If it's dirty or cloudy it can affect clutch performance. IMO it would be worth a shot to drain the clutch fluid out, refill it all with new fluid, then bleed the master/slave cylinders again.
It's also possible you've got some air in the lines. Bleeding a clutch can be a real pain. It took me a few times before I got all the air out of my truck's clutch when I replaced the cylinders.

If the fluid is cloudy, you may have to flush the system entirely, it sounds like your fluid has soaked up too much moisture.

Quick question, does the slave cylinder boot, if it doesn't have it or damaged, can this affect the liquid somehow or air can leak in if the internal seal bad?

No a damaged slave boot cant hurt a thing or cause any problem.
If theres brake fluid on it you have a problem. CHANGE all the fluid in the system with new fluid first. If theres still a problem change the slave and master first the easiest one to work on either one. Then do the other if its still not to your satisfaction.

because the clutch master cylinder in a Yaris is also the brake master cylinder how would one go about replacing it?
Obviously the lines are all removed and then re attached to the new cylinder, but are there any steps that can be taken so that all of the brakes don't need to be bled? My clutch is starting to go back to shuddering again after I flushed all the fluid and bled the slave. I'm thinking it may be worth changing the master ans slave cylinders |

A shuddering clutch could be due to a glazed clutch friction disc. This has nothing to do with master / slave cylinder or fluid...
