Anyone Have a trailer hitch on a Yaris??
I have owned My Yaris for 13 months and love it. I have driven Gas hog SUV'S for many years and dont plan on ever going back. With the suv's I have always been able to tow a trailer and am wondering if anyone on the forum has installed a trailer hitch and done any towing. I OCASIONALLY buy and sell motorcycles and sometimes I have to travel to pick them up. Would the Yaris be up to towing a 800 lb. Harley on a small trailer? I live in the the Spartanburg SC area,...no mountains here .just rolling hills. Thanks, Suey

Several threads exist on towing. Just search trailer.

Had a hitch on my ECHO and towed a 14 foot boat and outboard on it. Maybe 500 pounds? I think a Harley is no problem for your Yaris at least for short distances. U haul makes an outstanding mc trailer by the way and its $10 a day.

A short distance would be fine , but I sure would not take it to the Dragon . Also things could get tricky if there is a rough patch or pothole in a turn considering the high center of gravity of the trailer with load and that there are probably no shocks or power assist brakes on the trailer . ( Most small trailers that I see are straight axle )

I installed a Draw-tite hitch on mine yesterday. There's no way that I would tow anything substantial with it. The hitch more or less bolts up to sheet metal. I'm only using it for a bike rack.

I had one like that a 1980 Subaru Hatchback. I put a metal plate on the inside of the sheetmetal. I used it to tow a 1500lb boat five miles to the boat ramp. The first time the car would not pull the boat out of the water up the ramp! I had to tie a 50 foot rope to the hitch and then to the trailer tounge.
Once I towed that boat 150 miles with that setup. The trailer fishtailed anything above 50 mph. I inspected the mounting inbetween towings. It was fine and I would trust it. |

i have a Hidden Hitch ,that's the brand name you can still see it. i pull a 4 foot box trailer and flat tow my dune buggy (about 900 lbs) . pulls fine but give yourself extra stopping distance.
i used Geo Metro's for delivery in my Spacewalk business for years 1.0 motors and 1500 lb cars. the only mishap was when a trailer spring broke. 9 cars and over a million miles of towing. |

1Up USA Bike Rack on 2010 3DR
The lightest, best-made bike rack available = 1Up USA! I have a single tray on my 1-1/4 receiver and you can add up to five! The Yaris should probably only have 2 max. Tongue limit is 70lbs per my 2010 manual on hitches and unadvised towing...

I have one of these on my car. I only use it for a folding bike rack. I don't like the kind that strap onto the back of your car as I kept reading reviews that they can dent the car.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JIC1M8 It's towing capacity far outweighs the capacity of the Yaris AFAIK

http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...64&postcount=1 It's too bad the poster didn't snap a pic without the ball mount in place. Without it, all you see a 1.25 inch black square sitting below the bumper facia.

Hiddenhitch also makes a invisi-hitch one, where it is completely hidden when installed:
![]() It uses a special drawbar: ![]()
