Radio Reception after Car Detailing

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie wondered if I might be so bold as to ask a question?

I had my 2007 Yaris detailed last week after some bodywork was done. When I picked it up the saved radio stations were lost (which is fine) but the reception is now scratchy on stations that were previously clear.

Any suggestions as to what I should be checking?

Many thanks in advance folks - it's appreciated.

Lou

Do you have a sedan or liftback? The sedan's radio is built into the rear window, so if interior detailing was done, the cable that connects to the glass may have been ripped loose. If it is a lift back, like Klink mentioned, check to see that the antenna is still up top.

Also, was the dash taken apart at all?

CTScott meant to say that the sedan's radio antenna is built into the
rear window. But you probably figured that out.

If you lost the saved radio stations, does that mean that they
disconnected the battery? Did the body work require that they remove the battery?
What kind of body work was done to your car? Was the radio working properly
after the body work and before the detailing, or was the detailing just after
they did the body work?

If you look at this section from the factory repair manual, you will see the
route that the antenna cabling takes.
http://www.etimago.com/yaris/repairm...o%20Visual.pdf
Just wondering if the body work was done on the areas that the cabling
is running through?

Perhaps you can give us more information?

Firstly - thank you all for your replies so far.

Secondly - more detail.

I have a 4 door sedan. I guess they could have damaged the wire when cleaning the rear window? I will certainly take a look at the wiring to the antenna and see if there is anything obvious wrong.

Bodywork involved new bumper (after being rear-ended) and work on a rather large scratch on the front passenger door (Yaris vs. concrete pillar in parking garage)

My saved radio stations were no longer saved - this led me to believe they may have disconnected the battery for some reason. I am by no means any kind of expert - so I have no idea why they might disconnect the battery.

The bodywork and detail were done at the same place at the same time - so I don't know when the radio station problem begain - I just know it was like that when I picked it up.

Thanks again everyone.

Do you have the Integrated Radio or the regular one that comes in the majority of the yaris, take a pic of it. UP close shot as well so we can pull the model number and possibly do a quick Google search and possible trouble shooting techniques.

Check your ground cable to your battery, Maybe they didn't tighten it down ?

People tell me why my radio does not catch a wave that end in even numbers 106.6:101.2 for example?
He catches only odd at the end of 100.9:104.7.
What can I do to catch him?

You need an antenna adapter that shifts the signals from the European radio broadcasts to work with a US radio:

MickZEL; Some countries like the US only use frequencies ending in the odd numbers.
If your radio was designed for one of those countries. All the even ending numbers will not be avilable.

Looks like CTScott may have the answer you needed.

Ok, developments:

- Took a look at the antenna in the window - couldn't see anything amiss
- Discovered that if I turn the rear window heater off the reception is fine

Weird - but solves the problem I guess (unless the rear window needs heating!)

So - live with it like it is, or keep investigating?

There is a noise filter behind the left C-pillar that is supposed to suppress the electrical interference from the defogger to the antenna. It may be disconnected or bad.

please....help!

This is my first post but this exact thing happened to me. My radio is fuzzy as hell and when I turn the defroster off its crystal clear. I'm a dumbshit when it comes to cars, so please excuse me, hopefully ill be learning more soon. Where and what exactly is the C-pillar? Lol and being every part in a car illiterate, how am I going to locate this noise filter? Help the yaris handicapped...

On another note, CTScott, its members like you that made me join this site. There are so many cool projects with great instructions from members like you, and you're incredible knowledge and your willingness to share that knowledge make this such an incredibly awesome tool to me learning about my car! Keep it up and thank you!

Awesome display of technical knowledge and assistance!

The internet moght be good for something after all.

My advice?

Turn the window defroster on or off to get radio reception and leave it at that.

The C pillar is the rear most vertical support for the roof. Pop off the plastic cover between the rear driver's side window and the back window and you will see a black plastic chunk about 1"x1"x1" with a connector plugged into it.
