I'm about to throw my OEM cd player out my window!
First, my headunit won't switch to AUX at all (connection seems fine) and now the CD part is rarely working and the radio stations where I live are horrible. I'm planning on replacing it soon but would like to get a little more life out of mine before I smash it to pieces. First obviously my AUX doesn't work anymore and the error I get on the CD player is ERROR 1. Help save my sanity! What is this error and how do I get rid of it!

Error 1 is a read error. You can try running a cleaning disc.

It does it with every disc, so I'll try one of those laser cleaning discs and hope that helps.

Astro,
Was yours an integrated piece? What does the warranty coverage say about the radio? You have options. ...and a $100 radio is probably a little less than you want. Personally I'd rather use a nicer LOC on an integrated radio before a $100 radio.

Mine is OEM, non integrated. I had it out before when I had a 7" DVD player in there, but had taken that one out because honestly it sucked at playing DVD-MP3 discs. I'm looking at one that is about $160, is about 200watts and has bluetooth. I find the OEM system fine for my needs.... when it works right. Getting the CD player to work would be cool, but getting the AUX input to show up when I press CD would be super awesome as I listen to most of my music through my phone (mp3/pandora).
Is it possible my aux input might be dirty? I haven't spilled anything in there. And when it's not in use I always have the cap plugged in. |

If you use the AUX jack a lot, the jack may literally be work out. There is a set of contacts that get closed when you stick the phono plug in that signals to the HU to activate the AUX option. Those contacts may no longer be making contact.

So far a no-go with the lens cleaner. Got one from the company that makes the scratch fixing stuff, skipDR. I'll keep putting it in for pretty much the rest of the day. Might have to break down and get a stereo before I want to.
Oh yeah, I'm WELL out of warranty. My car is about 4.5 years old, and has 94k miles on it. I didn't go with the extended warranty. |

If you're desperate for tunes, PM me. I'll be taking my stock radio out later this week and won't need it anymore. It lights up amber though, but has worked flawlessly for the year I've had it.

I might be interested in your deck if the price is right.... I did get a CD to play today FINALLY. I just kept putting in the cleaning disc over and over and over and over, you get the idea. Although it didn't play the audio the disc had (kept saying ERROR 1) when I put my new Cake CD in it played great. It even kept playing the rest of the day even after switching to radio, turning the stereo off, the car off, etc. Still need to get that damn AUX port working. What would be the best way of looking at the contacts, or would I need a new AUX port?

A-Man, usually "Error" message on a factory set up means bye bye. Save yourself a ton of head ache and talk to folks at Crutchfield.com. They have many combos or just head units, and they carry all the necessary conversion harnesses and bracketry. You will not be sorry. Good luck bro!
