another alternator bites the dust
Went to my moms and dads house friday evening and my car was making a winding noise like a wheel bearing or loud super charger. I thought it was a wheel bearing at first but the noise got louder with reving the engine so i figured alt or water pump. Took belt off and alternator off yesterday and its hard to spin the pulley so the bearing is bad and the regulator is stuck cause its up to 14.10 volts instead of the normal 13.8 My car has 60,000 on it. Dealer wanted 590 for the alternator No one carries these things either

Got a life time warranted auto zone alternator today. Figured i would run by the starter alternator guy this afternoon to see if he could fix my old one as a spare. He sayed my stator went out. Sayed he has NEVER seen a yaris, echo alternator ever go bad. There were no parts aval. to fix it. And he could get a bosch reman for 199 life time warranty of course. So i guess this isn't a common thing cause the dealer said the same thing

Most electronic parts such as starters and altenators for toyota are all made by denso which is a really good quality part. Lot better than bosch and some of the other manufactures. Which is also why they typically cost more even for a remand. You say the voltage is at 14.1 which is no indicator that the altenator is bad. Most cars range from high 13.5-14.0 Also when you rotate the pulley for the altenator there is going to be a slight resistance its not going to spin like a idler pulley. Actually its more likely a idler pulley would go bad first. What i would do is with the belt removed start the car and see if the sound is gone 100 percent then you know for sure its an accessorie thats causing your sound.
