BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR GOUGING INSIDE SIDE OF ROTOR
Hello all,
I am new to the forum, and have came here for numerous answered questions by just searching, well i have a question that may be able to be answered here... History: Replaced front pads/rotors Replaced front passenger side wheel bearing Replaced front tires Problem: Brake rotor has a defined gouge on the inner side of the rotor. When you are making a hard left turn, the brakes are rubbing, if you apply pressure to the pedal, the noise stops.. I have replaced the front rotor and pads on that side 2x and its still doing it. I have torn the wheel off myself, along with the braking system to see if there was anything out of the ordinary with it- (brake dust shield, sticking caliper piston, sticky slider bolts, faulty brake pad hardware) and NOTHING The dust shield has been loose, and to improvise until i get time to pull the knuckle back off, drilled and tapped one bolt on the worse side of it to hold it in place as it has rusted terribly. I have put car on lift and VERIFIED there is no contact between the rotor and dust shield. Again, replaced the faulty wheel bearing, and with the new bearing/hub (bought both and used both new to save time) Ever since then, the car has been gouging the rotor on the inside of the vehicle. SO HOPEFULLY SOMEONE ELSE CAN HELP ME POSSIBLY SEE IF I AM MISSING ANYTHING TO LOOK OVER... THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE, AND I'M TERRIBLY SORRY FOR THE LONG ASS POST... -Brad |

Push the shield further back.
Mine clearly have space between, but rubs when making hard right turn (left shield rubs) I pushed the shield further back and it's no longer doing it. Next I may just get brand new shield. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk |

Maybe the bearing is tight enough. Is there any play? Do you see marks on the caliper bracket? A bracket bolt that is too long?

The shield does not hit, the gouging marks are nowhere on the shield and wouldn't be on the pads as well if it were to hit. I drilled and tapped two bolts way back to hold it.
I'm unsure of how the wheel bearing could be too tight. The tolerances are pretty simple it only goes in so far into hun and into spindle... SO CONFUSING |

Like I said, mine did it on hard turn. I pryed it away from the rotor and the noise stopped. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk |

********UPDATE******
I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE ROTOR RUBBING ON THE CALIPER BRACKET, INSIDE CORNER TOP PORTION OF THE ROTOR AND THE BRACKET, COULD THE MOUNTING EARS OF THE KNUCKLE HAVE BEEN BENT WHILE PRESSING THE BEARING IN OR OUT? I AM GOING TO GRIND THE BRACKET OUT A FEW MILS TO GET IT TO STOP RUBBING UNTIL I CAN GET A NEW KNUCKLE... |
