Seeking Advice - 17" Alloys

I have a chance to pick these wheels up for a good price. I would install 205/45R17 tires.

I think that they are polished aluminum and I have requested higher res images from the seller. I could polish them. If not, I could repaint them in silver or just re-clear them.

I think they would look good, but I am concerned about how rough the ride would be. I've read the aftermarket wheels and tires thread but not much info on ride quality.

So, share your thought, please.

I had 17s in my Yaris before. Ride quality is good, but it will probably also depend on your suspension setup. If you are on stiff coilovers, it will probably have a harsher ride. Try to get lightweight 17s. I’m in Eibach ProKit springs and KYB Lowfer Sports dampers. TRD recommends 205/45/17 tires. I wouldn’t suggest anything beyond 7 inch wheel width cuz of rubbing issues. HTH

Thanks very much kappa_md! Excellent advice. Unfortunately, before the guy could send me pics, someone dropped in and bought them. Very disappointing. I am running on stock suspension. I also have 10mm Penguin Garage spacers on the back, but they could be removed if necessary.

I have played around with Gimp and come up with some possibilities. I'm pretty sure that both sets of Hyundai wheels in the pics below would work. The wheel offset for the Yaris and Hyundai is 46. I have to get specs on the Eagle 192. I am trying to keep a stock look, but would love to go to minimally a 16", preferably 17". Budget is a factor. I'd be willing to buy straight wheels that need refinishing as I have a paint booth and all the necessary equipment. Images are bordered for Instagram.

On my '07, I ran 15's, 16's, and 17's on stock suspension. I liked the look and the ride comfort of the 16x7 (with 205/50/16) best of all. With my '14, I only ran this 16" combination.

Yes, I think 16" seems like the ultimate size for the Yaris. 17" might be pushing it a bit, considering the condition of our roads. A 205/50/16 would work perfectly with my set up as, although it's slightly wider, it is very close in diameter. And, I'm almost positive that I could leave the PG spacers on if I used that size of tire.

What do you think of the 2008 Accent wheels? They are probably the closest I could find in design to the stock RS wheels. They have the same center cap diameter and depth etc. I think I could get set up reasonable affordably with a set of those wheels. It would be nice to have a couple sets of wheels to swap out when when I felt like it.

Here's a different pic of the Hyundai wheels. Obviously, disregard the read brake caliper. Haha.

^^^ I like that 16" Hyundai wheel. At one time, I actually thought about putting those on my car!

Your 10mm spacers will be fine in the rear with those wheels.

Yeah, they are nice, and should be both available and relatively inexpensive. Good to know they would work with the spacers.

For sure, eh. They are the closest I could find to the RS wheel. I had a chance to buy a set a while back and foolishly didn't pick them up. They were quite rough. I'm sure others will come up. There are several sets in excellent shape in Ontario, one set with relatively new tires. Alas, shipping would kill me. I'm keeping my eyes open and advertising in the virtual classifieds.

Just wondering how much this affected your speedo? I'm on 185/60R15 and my speedo is indicating 2MPH slower than actual speed (for example speedo says 20MPH, but actual speed is 22MPH). Looks like my 2008 hatchback is dialed for the other stock wheel/tire setup of 175/65R14.

I think that's what I'm going with. Have 3 sets to check out in the next few days. I posted a wanted ad and got 2 responses. Also a third set to look at at a wrecker yard.

Hmmm... what do I need to replace to get mine to dial in like yours? the ring that goes around the with the diff or the gear for the speed sensor?

Compare to my wheel/tire setup, you're going faster than me.

Or does yours pick speed signal from the abs?
