I decided that I am using my car as a daily driver and am interested in stability, with an increase in handling. The "Iwants" told me to go 23, but the practical side said Barry, you dont "need" it at all, but want it, so why not get all the benefits and save a few bucks. I will probably NEVER throw my car into a corner hard enough to need the 23.
LOL, but there is that part inside that say "owww, shiny......" If this is good, thats better.
But reality set in....I'm still gonna paint it some shade of red though so it goes with my Mediterranean mica sedan, lol

Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

The sway bar doesn't help you drive. You drive as you drive. It just helps the car do what you want it to do.

The swaybar by itself makes a modest difference in handling, but will not affect the hobby horsing the car does at high speeds over undulating pavement. The TRD swaybar is 19 mm. I just put a caliper on it a few seconds ago.

Keep in mind the lowering springs are stiffer and the lower cg they give also add to the roll resistance of the car, the swaybar is about 1/3 of the total effect, it seemed to me. I added the rear springs and swaybar, drove it for a day, then did the shocks the next day and drove it, then the struts and front springs on the last day. Each modification added some roll resistance, the total effect of all parts it quite pronounced.

just installed 23mm UltraRacing on 2010 Yaris HB

--------------------------------------------------

This is such an improvement to everything about driving the car I do not know
where to start other than say GET ONE. It makes cornering awesome and highway
stability vastly improved. My Yaris went from a marshmallow to magical. It now behaves
like a much sportier car. wow I am pretty blown away by the change.

I also went looking for the added harshness hitting asymmetric bumps or
diagonal cracks or bumps. Couldn't find any problem of added harshness. I felt
a more firm stance, but it didn't make the ride harsh at all. I have everything
else stock...springs, shocks, tires all stock. Huge improvement.

Same here with the 19mm, more stability when lane changes, got rid of the wandering on the highway too, bonus! I kinda wish I'd gone with the 23mm now, but very happy with the change.Nicer car to drive. Although I do find myself taking the corners in the subdivision faster than I would have...within reason of course, lol
For what I was trying to acheive, it worked perfectly. 40 minute install taking my time.

My only warning to new owners of the bar is watch your speedo when taking corners. The car feels so much better going around corners that without care, you'll be wearing through tires a bit quicker ;)

partly incorrect. it does help you drive.

it can help reduce fatigue on a long drive
(less demand and focus keeping the car planted on highway, easier cornering)

less fatigue = making you a better more attentive driver

sway bar owners...amirite ?

I don't how a sway bar helps fatigue. Sway bars don't really do much in a straight line.

it does nothing in a straight line.

but please, unless you are in Iowa, there is rarely 1 continual mile of highway when you are going exactly straight. you are always lane changing or the road curves, or there are ruts, crosswinds, truck vortex...

the sway bar helps with these minor turns too.

on the highways in NE I already notice:

less steering effort when I am buffeted by 18 wheelers
drag vortex

less steering input for crosswinds

less steering effort over the rain 'humps', and grooves from
'sun baked pavement and rush hour traffic' undulating ruts
and lane changes

so, I stand by what I said: less overall fatigue. your mileage may vary

it takes a lot of mental energy to take long trips in a Yaris HB
because it is squirrelly by default. the fat sway bar in back cuts that
way down.

I already tested my new sway bar in a lot of conditions (it has been installed for 16 hours now) and have 350 miles on it already. 40 in town, 310 on interstate highway and off ramps.

after further testing....

yes there are certain bumps which are a bit harsher than without the swaybar

there are certain chatter bumps that when hit while cornering the rear end may want
to skip a little

it is now possible to lift the rear inside wheel in corners, but when this happens
A) I am going waaaay too fast to begin with and B) when that wheel lifts it increases traction up front so if you do not panic and just go with the flow, it enhances cornering

I would not recommend the swaybar for a driving novice or common idiot, as it does
allow you to 'get giddy' easily and then you may end up beyond your ability or beyond
the tire capability. but I love the damn thing.

I agrere with your assessment.
As with any car, you have to respect its limitations and lean not to push it beyond it.

Personally, Ihe swaybay revealed just how bad the OEM "Goodear LS" tires are.
Monday, I wiil be getting "Yokohama Avid TRZ" tires installed and hopfully they will allow me to push it a bit further.

BTW, I would not recomed that a "common idiot" be allowed to drive anything on a public road.
