2010-12 Fiesta or Honda Fit.

I need your opinions. I am looking to buy a second hand hatch. I know a Yaris. But i want something different. Decided on two contenders. Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta.

Just want your opinion which is better and what should i look out for

I've heard the fiesta and the focus are lemons. I used to work with guys that owned both. Granted these were 2017/2016 models. The fiesta had 3 ecu changes under warranty and the focus had a host of electrical problems. The fiesta was driven by my coworkers wife for toting the kid around and the focus was driven by a family man for commuting. Neither of these drivers are hard on their vehicles.

I'd go with the fit.

Unless the Fiesta in the Australian market is a much different vehicle than what was delivered in the North American market, stay far away from it.

Good point. Could be a different car in other markets. But I know the canadian ones are garbage.

Yeah, it's the Aussie Fiesta. Heard it's the automatic that's problematic but the manual wont give you grief.

When I was shopping for my Yaris I checked out all the other hatches available here. The Yaris won but the Fit was a close second.

I'd personally stay far away from the Fiesta. Fit would be my choice, hands down. If I hadn't bought a Yaris, I would have bought a Fit. I have some days regretted not buying the Fit, because they are such awesome and reliable little subcompacts. Good luck.

Fit seems like a pretty cool platform

I actually originally wanted a Fit. But in 2009, I was a new college graduate, so money was an issue. I went with the Yaris only because it was the less expensive option. You should go with the Fit, you'll be really happy with it.

Actually my very first car was a Ford. 1000 years ago when I was a teenager. It was a Ford Laser with a Carby engine. I treated it like a Ferrari. It was a fun unit. God knows where it's at now. My old man owned a Ford Cortina. That thing was a bomb but he couldn't afford a car with 5 kids he did what he had to do. I remember he would tinker with it like he was some DIY mechanic but it broke down a lot it wasn't too bad it got us from place to place.

Oh, man memories of Ford. Might return to my roots.

fiestas have major problems with the auto power-shift transmissions if you're going auto (though im not sure how far that extends into the newer models). the rear seats are properly tight (if you have kids/family or friends with legs). i had a friend with a 2011-ish fiesta that had water get into his fuse box and rotted out all the wiring.

that said, id totally rock an ST or a 1.0T model (SFE, i think)

otherwise, the honda fit is the superior car overall. whatever you spend on sticker price for the fit will be made up in low maintenance, overall quality, and resale.

i would go fit over fiesta

I researched further and found that the 5 speed manual also has problems with the reverse gear grinding because FORD only has one synchro instead of two.

Upon finding this out. We have decided to get a 2019 Honda fit/jazz manual. Which is the base model. You can't get manual in mid to higher trim

But i can't wait.

myfirstyota, you're right. I love my Yaris, and it's been nothing but a badass little reliability superstar for me, thus far. I see myself keeping this car as long as I possibly can. But if I had to buy a car tomorrow, and seeing that I love subcompacts, I'd probably buy a manual Fit since the Yaris is now a Mazda.
