2008 Yaris Died & Won't Start

Hi everyone, I am new here. I am not much of a car person or mechanically inclined, but I will do my best to describe the issues with my car. I greatly appreciate any help.

I have a 2008 Toyota Yaris with 118k mi. I was driving home yesterday afternoon and it died out on me. The car turns over, but will not start. Initially when it first died on me it felt like it was almost going to start a few times, but didn't. Actually this would happen after I waited awhile.

I got a tow back to my place. I checked the battery and it's good. I ran a code scanner and I got the following 2 codes. C0278 and C1241. I see that for C1241 it could be because of bad battery or bald alternator. Since this is electrical could this be causing it? Also I checked the fuses along the EFI relay and all 3 fuses looked a bit darkened. I've attached photos.

The check engine light is not on and no other codes are showing. Also sometimes when I first start the car in the morning there is a bit of a high pitched whining sound but then it stops almost immediately.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated. Again I am not really mechanical but I did my best to look up what I could.

So, its cranking strong and almost starts? Sounds like it's out of gas to me.

Thank you for the reply. From what I've read on here it seems to be that. But I still have 2 bars of fuel. Although I know the gauge could be messing up. I am thinking the relay for the fuel pump.

Although I read something similar and the person put in some gas and it started up.

Try a gallon or two. Sometimes you can have someone crank the engine and pound on the gas tank at the same time, if it's a weak fuel pump it might start.

That code usually means that the 12v supply is too low.
This could be because the alternator is bad.
Put a voltmeter accross the battery and have someone crank the engine.
If you don't see 13.5 volts or higher I would suspect the alternator or its wiring.

I did put the voltmeter on the batter when the it was off and got 12.5. I also took the battery to Autozone and it was good. Back to the alternator. If the alternator was bad wouldn't this be draining the battery? While checking things out I left the keys in the ignition on on and the dashboard lights were on and did not dim(to my recollection).

My roommates Uncle checked it out. He traced it back to the fuel pump and said 1. He didn't hear it going on and 2 no voltage reading at it.

He did get a maf code but said it makes sense now cuz of the fuel pump not working. What do you guys think?

Well if there is no voltage at fuel pump then the fuel pump might be actually ok (if there is no short-circuit inside obviously). I would start with fuse, checking wiring contacts etc... No idea if there is a specific fuel pump relay or not, sorry.

I found in my 2007 service manual.
EFI Fuse, EFI Relay, IGN Fuse,IG2 Relay, AM2 Fuse and the C/OPN relay. Could effect the fuel pump. With the C/OPN relay directly turning the fuel pump on and off.
Your 2008 maybe similar.
