I CANNOT get the front strut nut off

I'm trying to install my TEIN springs. I got the back done easy peezy. I've got everything off the front necessary to access the front strut bolts with the alan key inside and 17mm nut.

I CANNOT use a box wrench to turn it, it just starts to stip the upper part of the bolt. I CANNOT use a ratchet with a socket to loosten it because I need the alan key to hold the centre from moving.

How the bloody hell do I get these nuts off? The spring install guide makes it sound easy peezy but that just is NOT happening.

Does anyone know if a socket with a hexagonal outside (instead of completely round) exists? You know then I could use the socket and use a large like 19 or 21mm box wrench to turn the socket...

OR anyone have any other teniques?

remove the top panels plastic and steel , wiper's then use a impact gun
electric or air powered , also make sure you are turnning the nut counter clock wise

I dont think you understand what I mean, I've already done all that.

But I got them off I went and bought some better vice grips.

You need a 17mm off-set wrench. It's the only good way to get that nut off.

17mm wrench and the correct allen wrench, then it will come off.

If you are trying too remove the first nut on the strut , do it while there is upward pressure on the strut ,
ie with wheel on and sitting on the ground or with jack under wheel hub ,
this takes some of the pressure of that nut .
if you are talking about the secound nut use spring compressor to take up spring pressure , of nut .

What thirtynine said. I used a offset wrench and a allen key. I used a small pipe on the end of the allen key to hold it in place and a long handle offset box wrench. Came off with a little effort without having to remove the cowl.

ok thanks guys.

I eventually got them off by using some vice grips with a 17mm socket and a alan wrench...

I have another problem now though. I'll make a different thread though as it's a totally different problem.

I'll have to pick me up some wrenches.
