Salt ? On My Yaris ? mid October ? it's more likely than you think...
so, heading down I95 S in Marseholechusetts, snow was coming down and building into slush at 9pm sunday.....off in the distance I spy the dreaded ice removal truck. Hoping it was sending the liquid chem down...I soon discovered
it was rock salt. The Yaris is now fully broken in at 470 miles. once you drive in salt at 60mph and get some pingers it doesn't matter the mileage, it is ready for general use. it would have been a bummer, but the newly hand-rain'xed yaris was flying in the snow and...although slush tosses it around quite a bit more than my 4runner...it was a good night to christen the new piglet. |

This little winter preview we had over the weekend was depressing to say the least. Nice username by the way :D

Now that it's broken in, you can really start having fun with it I considered mine fully broken in when I had had it about a year and went to a Judas Priest show, to find a ding in my door after if had been left in the parking lot. There was a moment of silence, and then the thrill of not having to worry about it's first mishap! So, have fun
And by the way, love that you call yours a 'piglet'. I call mine a piglet from time to time and get the weirdest looks.... so I'm glad I'm not the only weird one |

piglet is a good one, mine is usually called a toaster or a roller skate.
that sucks about having to break it in so early, i'm dreading the winter in NY (i snow plow for a town dpw). the little toaster did exceptionally well in the snow considering it's size and all last year.

My Yaris nicknames are as follows:
El Diablo, The Phoenix, The Red Dragon, and the The Little Red Jelly Bean (girlfriend gave it that one). |

WTF, snow already in MA??
I have not seen any snow in QC yet. It's just icy these days in the morning. that's pretty much it. |

Haha, mine is Piglet, Snippet, and Zippo. And when she does well passing a muscle car or climbing a hill, she gets a 'good girl' and a pat on the dash
My 67 Ford Fairlane generally just goes by The Beast... |

My GF calls it 'Cookie Jarvis'...(she really dug deep for that one) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_Crisp she digs the 4runner, but really likes Cookie Jarvis a lot too... [the 4runner gets us deep in the woods up bony roads for outdoor activities, we cannot ever give it up] |

I have never lived anywhere that salt or chemicals were used in the wintertime. For example, here in the Tahoe region we just use sand (which works just fine) due to the environmental impact of the other options.
Imagine my surprise while driving through the New England area last winter and seeing a salt storage dome for my first time. I had to ask someone what they were.

Oh yeah, and I haven't even touched on the environmental aspects. I know two different families who had settlements after their drinking water and housing values were destroyed by nearby salt sheds. R2 |

The above photo, notice Rain-X doing it's job...visibility pretty decent for a snow/rain event...I had not touched the wipers in hours.....
this flash shows the stuff Rain-x was dealing with. rain-x has to be the #1 safest 'driving in crap' thing ever invented |

Get the undercoating/oil/rustspray. I know it's messy but worth it.
