What maintenece for a 2009 2dr with 300,000+ miles?
Within the last 25k miles I've had the brakes/brake fluid done, new plugs, coolant, regular oil changes with Royal Purple (since new every 7-8k), cleaned my the conical filter on my K&N cai, and had my tires rotated... my MAF got cleaned off at probably 275k.
I had a belt change about 75k miles ago and occasionally get a slight squeak on really cold mornings. Had a fuel system cleaning at maybe 175k? But I don't know if they do anything more than dump an additive in the tank and charge $100+? Also had the starter replaced at 175k miles after it started making odd noises... I think the belt go adjusted improperly at some point and damaged it. Up this Friday I'm having my third transmission fluid, a power steering fluid change, and an oil/filter change. What a I missing that needs to be checked on the car? Can you replace fuel filters on these? |

I hope you don't have to pay ANYTHING for power steering fluid change. It should be free. No one with a Yaris should pay for this.
I think you got everything covered. How about coolant? Check for coolant leak, and timing chain cover leak Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

lol about the powersteering fluid
I suppose you could also do brake fluid. My yaris is at 300k and I just had to do a rear wheel bearing and a cv shaft (torn boot). also seems very common to replace the exhaust gasket between the midpipe and header. I suppose as long as bushings and joints are checked, your ready for another 300k

The book calls for a valve clearance check/adjustment at 60,000 miles. Havnt heard about anyone having problems with that however and I assume youve not done yours and look at all the miles!

I called my local dealership on the 60k valve adjustment and they didn't even have it on file. I had to show it to them in the maintenance schedule. My service adviser said there was no way to check for them being out of spec unless opening it up. He also commented on how costly and most likely unnecessary it was. I've always wondered about it.

I'm used to doing this for my motorcycles but only once in about 15 bikes did I find the valves out of spec, although that was a BMW and there wasn't any clearance at all ! It's actually pretty easy to check the clearance yourself, but really involved to change the clearance if need be. All you have to do is remove and replace the valve cover. You need a feeler gauge And need to know the values for the intake and exhaust valves. As long as the cam lobe points up your good to check the clearance.

Correct, you have to remove the valve cover to check the valve specs.
That said I've checked my clearances on 2 different vehicles with the 1nz's and they always checked well within spec anywhere from 170k km and again all the way up to 370k km. To the point where I would never open up the valve cover just to check valve specs ever again.

Anyone offering you a powersteering flush on a yaris is a thief. The yaris uses electronic steering and has no fluid reservoir to change.
The only real maintenance you need to do on these cars is change oil, check brakes, air filter. Transmission fluid and coolant are things that last a long time, same with iridium spark plugs. |

I bought a 2007 Yaris hatchback 5-speed with 190k miles on it, from a Toyota dealership. First things I did were spark plugs and PCV valve replacement. Since then I have changed the transmission fluid, front rotors/pads, alternator and serpentine (accessory) belt. Also, doing regular oil changes. Just broke 250k miles and she runs like a top! That said, I'd like to do a valve adjustment soon. Don't mind getting my hands dirty, obviously.
Does anyone have a reliable link to the service manual for a valve adjustment on the 1NZ-FE engine? Cheers, and thank you! |

i would start looking into a new fuel pump, hate for you to be stranded with that miles the fuel pump might go anytime soon, good rule of thumb is every 200k miles to replace fuel pump

Thanks, I'll do the fuel pump soon. Also a good idea to replace fuel filter? Here's a link to youtube video of 1NZ-FE rebuild manual. Seems useful.
