DIY LED 3rd BrakeLight on Stock Housing
I've made this simple DIY and am posting it for everyone interested as part of me giving back to the YW community.
Hope you enjoy it! (I will probably change this to 4 or 5 LEDs once i have the time and more money ) 1. Materials: - 3M 2-sided mounting tape and electrical tape - about 1 foot of wire (to extend the wire from the LED to the "proxy bulb" - LED preferably with lenses to make them look bigger, notice how the lenses look on the 4nd pic/1st pic of Step 2 (i got a Korea-made LED assembly that's 12V ready and has 1 year warranty--wow!) -old t10 plastic base (like the ones from your busted China-made LED bulbs so you can insert wires into and that plugs directly to the bulb socket (no splicing needed) - brackets from a Central door lock package, just something you can easily bend/cut to length (something like the two in the middle of the 1st pic or the one between the electrical tape and the mounting tape on the 2nd pic) 2. Putting the bracket on the LED 3. Making adhesive for the bracket 4. Setting up the assembly on the reflector housing I set it up in a way that it's quite flush against the diffuser (red lens of the stock brake light) so that the LEDs are stable in there. 5. Pulling the wire out throught the whole 6. Final Assembly 7. Testing it without any assistance with flash: without flash (it's actually brighter than it can be seen on this pic): 8. Tint Cutting will spell the difference between night and day later (as i have super black tints) 9. Results! With Tint Uncut Day: Night: Observe the LED light's brightness relative to the stock brake lights and compare them to the last pic. 9. Results! With Tint Cut Day: Thanks to Mr. Nice Guy for pressing the brake pedal for me so I can take a picture. :) (note: he has a permanent limp :( ) Night: Last edited by jcboy; 06-07-2013 at 08:36 PM. |
