FR DR Brakes grabbing / caliper getting stuck?

Hey everyone,

Have been driving my wife's '07 Yaris 4 dr Sedan since we've been together and noticed that when you depress the brake pedal during a stop, you can feel the brake momentarily grab. Definitely feel it more on the driver side. Been happening for two years or so. After this tiny grab the brakes operate as they should, the car stops, no problem.

Just over the past week she had a major problem of the caliper piston getting stuck (I think). Burnt up the brake pad pretty good as she was not close by. Lots of smoke, smelled real bad when she parked it. My local independent could not reproduce this problem. I left the lot after having the burnt out wheel bearing replaced and had the brake on the driver side lock up on ME this time. It took some time for the problem to surface (maybe 20-25 min). Gradually became harder and harder to accelerate as the brakes were locking onto the rotor. Barely make it back. Same deal, lots of smoke, etc.

The independent says it's either the master cylinder or the brake hoses (tried to tell me that you generally do both even though I'm only having a problem with the one side). Considering the grabbing it was doing before it started getting stuck I'm leaning toward a bad piston seal or something similar. Anyone have any ideas/experience as to what the problem could be? Thank you for looking.

I'd check the caliper guide pins first they may be sticking causing brake drag it's more likely than the pistons it's the number one cause of irregular brake wear have your mechanic take them apart inspect clean and relube them

I'll try that first before I splurge on the brake hoses. Thanks for your suggestion.
