Yaris Problem..Please help (Engine cuts out 3k revs)

Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone can help please. I have a 1.0L X Reg Yaris and recently when i hit around 3000 revs (in any gear), its like i'm bouncing off the rev limiter and the fuel cuts out.

It's acutally at a toyota garage at the mo, but has everyone there baffled,as they have a error code P1315 (misfire they reckon). They've tried new spark plugs, swapping coils from a donor car, continuity checks of all of the ignition wiring, and fuelling checks, but still no joy

Has anyone had experience of this before ? I don't want to keep throwing cash at it at the dealer !

Thanks if anyone can help, or has any suggestions of what it could be?

Laura

You are in limp mode or so it seems, it could just be that your MAF is dirty and is not tossing a code to you. (Cheapest Solution)

Other things could be bad injector/off timing on the crank/crank/camshaft position sensor.

It seems like an easy problem to fix, but you did the right thing and checked the coilpacks/plugs first.

Hope this helps!

Thx for the help. My husband did gently clean the maf after reading it on the lexus forum. But it didn't seem to cure it.

Do you think the toyota dealer would think to test for the other things you mention ?

Depends on the tech, if it is a basic tech, i highly doubt it. I've met some pretty stupid ones in my trips to the dealerships...

Even if you cleaned the MAF, it could still be bad, Unplug the electrical connector from it, and see if it revs past that point. but other than that, it could be a crappy problem to fix.

Cars run on a combination of air fuel and spark, if one of those are off, it could do screwy things.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks very much for your help. Will see what the dealer says today (they've had the car for 3 days now!). If no good i'll get my husband to try your suggestions.

Thanks again,

Laura

Just had call from Toyota and they've found the probelm (finally).
Aparently they traced some dodgy wiring to the crank sensor, but it had misled them as the sensor itself was ok...

Thanks again,

Laura
