The original Elise used a Rover K series engine, then they switched to the 2ZZ which they then tweaked a little bit for extra power.

^ Correct.
Kaotic: The car that uses the Honda K20A is the Ariel Atom (which like the Elise started life using the 1.8L Rover K Series), but the North American built version is using some GM 2.0L engine (not very memorable, sorry). |

wow, thought everybody knew that, some people are doing engine swaps with the k20 instead. but did you know that the engine is a collaboration built by yamaha and toyota, yea thats some food for thought. lift ftw!!! for those that dont know lift is produced by another lobe on the cam that engages after 6200-8200 rpm, spinning really fast thus pushing the valves lower than normal to go even faster. sounds like nothing else, redline for the 2zz is 9k. only 3 other cars share this engine, the matrix xrs, celica gts and the ever so limited corolla xrs. when my yaris gets a little older this would be my engine to swap in. hopefully with the lotus specs. for more information on lift and the 2zz see link posted below.

Though I've never tried one myself, I'm personally kinda against the idea of having to really push the engine to such high revs to get proper performance out of it. Below 6200RPM, the engine behaves very much like a 1.8L corolla engine, with a tiny bit more oomph: Though I suppose this has its advantages, you can drive like a normal person at low revs and get very good fuel economy, but when you need the powar, shift down, step on it, and smile all the way to 9000rpm...

yea, i used to own a corolla xrs for a brief period of time, i used to engage in lift alot, sounds like a bat outta hell, i miss that car but not enough aftermarket support compared to the yaris. best of all people thought it was just a regular corolla

On a race track (the only place you should be using that much power) you're doing something horribly wrong if your revs don't stay high. If I could have a car that revved to 284,000 RPM, I'd do it. LOL
