On second thought, I think you need a tuneup, which should be done every 3 months to keep up with the Honda Ricers out there ... I would be willing to do it for around 500 bucks - I'll even put in new copper Champions ;) and remove your restrictive air filter and replace with poly pillow stuffing in a pantyhose FTW!

There are threee basic types of coolant the short lifed green that has been around forever and which lasts about two years, the newer red, good for maybe five years, and the recent pink which your car comes equiped with from the factory and is supposed to laast 100,000 miles. Why mess with it when you will not do any good and there is the small chance that you could do some harm?

Not to mention its not exactly a "cheap" procedure anymore. The normal green stuff is ~$10+ a Gallon, granted the Yaris probably has like 3/4 of a gallon haha.

Edit: Come to think of it, if you're on here asking if just the radiator drain is "good enough" and don't have a service manual.. You're WAY out of your league already. IMO you should have the manual every time you do something new. People ask me how to fix a problem while they were "fixing" another. I ask them whats the manual say?..

I'm curious because I know some don't have the block drain. I'm glad my yaris does. My car has around 20,000 miles. I drive alot along with a few long trips. I plan to change the coolant when it gets to 30,000 miles. I know it's still early but I just want to keep it in good condition.

No, actually, you don't want to change the coolant early.

Coolant is not engine oil, it's not put to heavy mechanical stress, nor does it wear out anywhere near as fast as engine oil or actual lubricants. It's a coolant, once it's seasoned it's best to leave it until the chemicals wear out (100k miles of use) before changing it.

Coolant is one of the few things where changing it early and often isn't always the best thing.

Don't forget to drain and replace the power steering fluid.

I find replacing the air in the tires with fresh air monthly is best. Remember to do this at night because the air is cooler and more dense.

Better change the electricity, then. Stale electrons can gum up the wiring.

I did the engine block value and the valve at the bottom of the radiator, I got very little out of the engine block, and it was very difficult to get at in my opinion. I almost said next time I drain, I am not even going to attempt the engine block, 90+% came from the front drain. I was lucky to get a cup out of the engine block. But go ahead and try it, if your results are very different let me know.

Why did you need to mess with the antifreeze on a new car?
