Need help with airbag ecu!

Hi there,
I’m new to the forum, just joined in the hope some knowledgeable folk in here can help me as I’m at the point where I might have to scrap the Yaris

So I have a 2003 1.5 VVT-i T Sport 3dr. It recently failed the mot due to the airbag light staying on. The garage told me from diagnostics it was a squib ring problem which I replaced, still the same issue. Got an electrician to check it all out and he’s narrowed it down to the airbag ecu.

Now the problem is I’ve since found out from Toyota that this is an import, and the ecu is some obscure thing that I can’t get hold of anywhere! I’ve tried getting it fixed at an ecu repair place, they couldn’t interface with it for some reason, I’ve tried a pcb repair place who want £200+ just to diagnose the thing. Model number is 89170-0D010.

So in short, I was hoping someone here might have dealt with this before? Or maybe a different model of ecu can fit this model Yaris, one that’s more readily available? Because I’ve searched all over the net and can’t find one. Seems a shame to junk the whole car over an airbag light! Any help much appreciated, thank you.

the question becomes..what country is it in...maybe get another ecu
