Engine tune-up

Hello guys,

My mechanic just returned the car to me, as he was fixing the Manual Transmission, and he told me that my car could use an engine tune up (things like cleaning the fuel injectors, checking the spark plugs, cleaning the throttle valve, things like that).

My question is, how necessary is to do this, if I do not see any problems with the car? I don't have excessive fuel consumption, vibrations, engine stalling, etc.

And if a tune-up is needed, can you tell me which parts have to be cleaned? To see if I can do it at home.

You can benefit from a new PCV valve, MAF/Throttle body cleaning and spark plugs, it can all be done for cheap at home with basic tools.

Routine preventative maintenance is the number one best way to make a car last and be reliable.

I'd do it anyways, spend a few bucks now and save thousands on potential, costly repairs and downtime.

Thanks, I have tools to do that so probably I'll do it on my own. Any other things in the engine that I should check?

Check and/or replace your serpentine belt. I replace mine regardless of condition every 80-100,000kms.

yeah the belt really only require 2 sizes and a lil hand work LOL...in all honesty these cars are very simple..and more compareable to a 70s corolla in simplicity for maintinance

change the plugs use good ones, change the air filter, too, cleaning the throttle body can be anoying but even it is simple enough

i always laugh when someone says "check the plugs"....imo like a belt..if you dont know when it was last changed then put new on so you know how old it is

as far as the injectors go..run a tank or 2 of royal purple "max clean" thru it...im not one for this kind of stuff but a friend made me try it...and this one im sold on, my test subject was my dirt bike to which id clean the carb every year....i havnt touched it in several..in fact i havnt had to touch ANY of my bikes carbs in may many years since useing this stuff once a year....ive also seen it work wonders on high milage injectors
