Where can I find rear brake pads (??) for a 2008 Yaris?

Rear wheels started squeaking a few weeks ago when the brakes were applied, and our local mechanic recommended we get replacement pads (if it is indeed pads that we need) for them to install -- cheaper to bring the part than to buy it through them.

The thing is, I can't figure out where to GET it. At Canadian Tire, they say that they "aren't available" (at both C. Tire outlets here in Sherbrooke, Quebec). Beyond that, there aren't a lot of chain car parts stores, and I don't really know WHAT I'm looking for in terms of the exact part I need and if there's another "version" of it that would work.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Yeah it sucks that Canadian Tire dosen't stock much for Yaris brake parts. Last year all they carried were bleed nipples, and recently they have started to stock front pads. No rear shoes yet.

I've done searches for both front and rear, and I keep finding that for us, dealer pads/shoes are about the best you can do. Shoes at dealer are ~$76.00

I'd be surprised if your shoes are actually worn to the point of needing to be replaced on a 2008 model. Be sure to get the mm measurement remaining before buying new ones. Maintenance manual states you can go as low as 1mm. My 2006 with 107,000 kms still has close to 3mm remaining, and I think they only start out at 5mm new.

We bought the car used with a lot of wear -- about 60K -- on it, so I'm not astounded. According to the Toyota guy (we bought it dealer-used) the front brakes had just been replaced and the back brakes were "at about 60%". I'm a newbie with cars, so I'm not entirely sure if they now need replacing, adjusting, or what.

If the dealer shoes aren't a total rip-off, that might be the way to go.

Heya Varr -- thanks for the info, but ordering cross-border has proven to be more trouble than it's worth more times than I can count, from everything from books to electronics. I'm really looking for a Canadian source (and should have been clear about that off the top, sorry).

At best, on this stuff, we may save about $10 bucks when all is said and done with cheaper U.S. sources. Sometimes the convenience of walk in and pick up is worth more than actually saving $10.
