[Help] Buying Tires & Wheel Questions

Hello All,

I’m having quite a lot of trouble understanding how wheel & tires work when buying them (this is my first time). I was reading the guide here and I understood a couple of things but I have some general, most like very stupid questions.

At the moment I only need two front tires because stretch marks started to appear a couple of months ago and a friend suggest I change them before they pop. I have some Bridgestone at the back which I believe where stock ones and used tires at the front.

I’m assuming I should buy 2 bridge ones for the front? Now for the embarrassing questions… How does it work once I get them? Do I take them to a tire shop near me and they have to do some special alignment thingy? Do they install it right away? Anything I should look out for at a shop to not have any bad experiences? I again reiterated I’ve never seen anyone buy tires and haven’t had any experiences with them.

For a while I’ve also been wanting some wheels and while I don’t plan to get them anytime soon I wanted to know what are some good ones to start on? (Relatively low price ones?)

Also, if anyone knows a reputable shop in Northern Virginia to do this stuff please do let me know.

Thanks a lot!

the tirerack.com is a good place to start looking for tires and wheels. They can also send them to a shop near you to have them installed. I would not get the stock wheels again, in general they are not very good.

Lots of different wheels fit on our cars, a bunch of years of civics have the exact same measurements as do earlier miatas. The important numbers are 4x100 for the bolts, 54.1 for the center bore (or hub) and generally and offset of +35-+45 to make sure they fit well.
