Toyota Yaris oil reccomendations?
Would like advice from a Toyota engineer on engine oil for a 2004 Yaris, have been told that it should be a fully synthetic oil, however I used to run my Corolla that I have recently traded in on a part synthetic 10/40, it was trouble free all the years that I owned it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Dino oil is all fine in 5w30 for use in North America.

Just switched to full synthetic, kept same 5w30. It's amazing. My engine is so quiet, it's even more so than the day I bought it!
Overall I'm happy with the change. Just need to keep my eye on if there is any burn.

I have been using Total (Elf) 5/30 full synthetic with a Denso filter.
No complaints. In my last Yaris I used Mobil 1 extended. I switched to the Total because it's cheaper. Never had a problem with either. Norton |

I'm running Mobil1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 synthetic right now. Car seems to like it just fine. I have one more jug then I switch to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30. I am intrigued by the really pure base stocks for the Pennzoil, derived from natural gas. Mobil1 and Pennzoil Ultra probably are the two best oils on the market.
Having said that, any ol oil should work in the car. Ran a smorgasbord of Dino 10w40s for a while. Pair whatever you get with a good filter. Wix, Fram Ultra, Purolator PureOne. Or Bosch Distance Plus, which is a rebranded PureOne.

I'm running Mobil1 too, using a TRD filter though.

0w30 Amsoil signature series and Amsoil EK filter here.
First year with the 0w30, it does provide better cold start in the winter. |

Does the 0w30 get you a better mileage?
I'm using 5w30 and thinking about using the recommended 0w20 on the next change.

Not sure I'd be brave enough to try 5w20 or 0w20 in one of these...

The medical courier whose Yaris has 500k on it uses Walmart Synthetic.
5-30.

No. 0w30 still have the same viscosity at full operating temps. It simply gives easier start up as it is less viscous at cold temps. Last edited by IllusionX; 03-31-2015 at 05:56 PM. |
