Tire Rotation and Position Change

My Yaris is having 10,000miles. Can anyone tell me if the rotation is necessary for the Yaris? Do I need to put the two back tires to the front? I mean have position changes for these four tires.

Thanks a lot!!!!!

I would highly recommend rotating tires. As the front tires normally wear faster ( on a properly aligned car) this will give you longer tire life which off sets the cost of the rotations. Rotations used to be done to cross the front and rear tires like an X. However it is no longer the norm to change the direction in which the tires run and the tires are now rotated front to back ( or back to front - lol ) on the same side of the car.

My car's tires were rotated by the dealership on the second service when the car was about 12 months old. In other words, as long as you take your car to a Toyota dealership for service regularly, you won't need to worry about tire rotation as a separate issue.

If you have directional pattern tread tires, you should not cross-rotate them, just switch them back to front, or you'll be runnign the tread backward, which will have the effect of sucking water under your tire, instead of pushing it out! Very dangerous when it's raining!

hmmm, we got one that says the manual says cross them, another says front to back for US. Another had the dealership do it but does no say how it was done.
Seeing we got different answers here, I guess I would call the dealership and find out and/or do what the manual says.
I for one have ALWAYS done the cross change, BUT for the YARIS I will do what the manual says. Better get going, got 7600 on her and havn't done it yet!

Always rotate tires front to back, and have them check the balance when doing so every 5000 when doing oil change per owners manual

Now, I'm not starting anything here...BUT, I have to ask this. Can anyone agree with me on the cross rotation thing? NOT talking about the YARIS here. It was mentioned, years of exper. in a tire shop. I'm only asking because I know I can pull out ANY Owneres Manual from previous years and it shows the cross rotation method. Go ahead and look, you'll find it. As a person with years of exper. as a tire person, it's one thing what the manual shows the way to do it and your boss telling you another. You read every thread on here and everyone says to "read your manual"...right?. At which year the manuals were changed to do the front to back method I do not know. Did it even matter which way you did it? Was there a tire design change over the years (yes, I know..of course there where tire changes over the years) which made it front to back when rotating tires nowadays to make them (tires) last longer? I've been on the bike all week, so I don't know about the "correct" rotation on the YARIS. Now since the question was asked, I'm going to check the manual when I get home today.
Very good question.

cross rotate is only done to correct irregular tire wear dure to poor tire maintnence (not rotateing and balanceing tires every 5k miles, bad alignment, bad struts/shock or other front suspension or steering parts)

There's nothing wrong with cross-rotating the tires, if as mentioned, they use a unidirectional tread (and if the are all the same size too, of course!). It's probably just easier to swap front and back, with no ill effects.

Early steel belted radials (in the 70's) had problems with belts seperating after reversing rotational direction. (something abouts the early steel cords would fray???) Believe me if you want, it happened to me on a set of tires I switched from one car to another,.....or just consider as an Urban Myth coming from a mumblin old Toad!!!!
