bye bye water pump
Ready to upgrade to an electric water pump. This will be controlled by the AEM EMS. That means it can be run even after the car is shut off (and other neat options).
Without this and the A/C, the car will be running only two pulleys. Picture is on the built motor. (Don't worry, the NST crank pulley will be transferred over )

This photo shows the block off plate but where is the (I'm assuming) remote pump?

Cali-we ran an electric water pump (from a Civic) on the Yaris. We stuck it inline in the lower radiator hose and simply disconnected the water pump pulley for dyno testing. Getting rid of accessory drive from water pump is worth a few extra horsepoweer.

Electric water pumps seem unreliable to me. It's not the pump itself but more the thermostat to engage it that scares me. It's obviously a simple way to gain a few hp though.

The remote pump isn't installed yet, since the motor is sitting on a stand waiting our swap. Hadn't thought of using a Civic pump, I was going to buy a new aftermarket one. Thanks for yet another good idea, Richard!
Electric pump setups are very reliable (e.g., Civics have them) - this one will be controlled by the AEM as my first post mentioned. Mechanical pumps fail, too - as do thermostats. Just have to watch the temp, another good reason to have real gauges on these project cars!

Art had it made, or made it himself -- he sent me the pic from his cell yesterday.
I wouldn't mind a spacer for the oil pan, for a little more capacity.....hint hint... NST...hint hint....

Garm, to be honest you should probably just do an Accusump setup to protect yourself from oil starvation. It is only a couple hundred bucks. |

i do plan on autocrossing this car as well as taking it on a few road courses. maybe a pan to hold an extra quart would be sufficient? would cooling fins on the pan work to keep the temps down as well?

It is kind of a mystery as to how much to add. As a guess I would say 1 quart would be too much. That is over 25% of the total capacity. I have no data to make a concrete statement though. Again, I'm not sure on how hot the oil runs in this car. I don't have a gauge in mine. I'm sure a finned pan would help a bit. |

well i believe we need to conduct some studies. to get the temp would a filter sandwich adapter and gauge be accurate enough to read temps?
