Question Crank shaft pulley bolt removal?

I hope someone can advise me of any tips to get the crankshaft pulley off my 2002 Yaris 1.0Vvti. The engine is still (mostly) in the car.
I have tried the workshop manual method with no success.
I have broken a 3/8ths socket breaker bar on it using the 'starter motor' method.
I then got a 1/2" socket breaker bar, heated up the bolt and give it a good squirt of release fluid before and after heating, then let it cool.
Well, first tries and the battery just wont budge it.
I'm currently charging it up to max, but thought I'd check with you guys
as someones bound to have had the same problem.

I have had ones come off very easily and others that were crazy stubborn, I have used the starter method with success, but prefer to use an impact wrench, as I think it is a bit safer.

Thanks for that; reassuring to know the starter motor method is ok. Don't have an impact wrench tho. Not a lot of room down there either, without stripping out the wing.

On the MK2 Yaris it is easier, as you just have to pull the tire on that side and the bolt is easily accessible. The starter method is a common one by old school mechanics, but you definitely want to use a 1/2" breaker bar when doing it.

It's a great machine, was going strong at 135,000 miles but got baked when the radiator leaked dry. Seems they didn't expect too many heads coming off as it's a bit more work than my CRV. I'll go and give it another go.

Might be time to pick up and impact wrench. If you have a compressor, a decent air powered one can be had for about $50 US. If not, a decent electric one runs around $150 US.

It's looking that way, just going to have a go with my ratchet torque wrench, should be able to get it on if I drop that side of the engine a touch.

impact wrench i used to get it off and it was like butter but had problem tightening it no way to keep it from spinning with out damaging the new piece and use a torque wrench. i ended up using the same impact wrench but dont know what torque its on.. used lowest level...arghhh! now this is bothering me if its tight enuff..

Well, got it off in the end. Took the starter motor off and jammed a spanner between the flywheel and the casing. As I had a 3ft half inch breaker bar on it I had it in gear with the brakes jammed on and took up some of the slack before jamming it so the flywheel and casing wern't taking all the force alone. Amazing that it still took a big heave to shift it!
