airfilter

Hi. I'm trying to save a few dollars and change the air filter myself. I tried it today and unlatched the two clips on the right side but wasn't able to get the top off. Seems like you have to remove the large hose that goes to the engine from the airbox to get the top off all the way...is this right? or am I missing something obvious like I usually do Figured I'd ask before trying again. Thanks. Jen 2008 Yaris 3dr HB

Hose is one stiff mother. Put some muscle into it and she'll come off. Lift on the right side to release the two tabs hooking the top to the bottom on the left side, then wiggle it up.

Just make sure that when you put the replacement in, you get the square corner of the filter in the right spot. If you can't get it closed, or there's visible filter around the seam, it's in the wrong way.

You don't need to remove anything to get this done-just undo the metal clips and lift gently on the end that the clips hold down. You will not just be able to remove the cover and gain wide open access-you can only lift the cover so far and then you grab the filter and slip it out. The new one goes in the same way-slip in. Yes, pay attention to the square edge-the filter only fits one way. Make sure the two tabs that act like a hinge on the side with the hose are in their slots-I've made that mistake once.

Next thing you know, you'll be swapping your crank pulley and installing a sway bar!
