how do you get past the california emission laws with a s/c
i was wondering how to super charge my yaris but I live in california and dont know how to get past the dredded smog checks every 2 years. I know that people here are doing this tho so I guess I just want to know how they are doing it. I dont believe any of the available s/c have the carb e.o. number to be legal here

yes I am pretty handy under the hood but that just seems crazy to me to have to do that. Maybe Yaris owners should push blitz or others into getting the exemtion for their products. :)

I emailed toyota asking them why they didnt offer the turbo package like the JDM counterparts. They responded by telling me that it is because the ecu is different. I thought well duh no kidding, wouldnt that be part of the turbo package. I wasnt born yesterday.

Can't you just turn it off. If it's a Blitz, you can turn it off to run stock.

depends on how sticky they are on a visual inspection

yeah I wouldn't be worried about emmisions being high just the visual inspection. They are required to fail a certain number of cars each year, like its a Gov. shake down

find a shady inspection place. we don't have the smog tests but still you wouldn't believe the crap that gets by here in texas because there is always someone who's willing to bend the rules.

+1, or look for car forums with your region area on them, and track down the modified members to ask where they get their SMOG checks.
Or check your local Craigslist for modified cars, (or go to local shows) and you can run a SMOG history check at the California Bureau Of Automotive Repair here provided they have a VIN that's publicly available or their license plate (although numbers get recycled so take note of the model) and go to the same place they went to if it's unlikely that they removed the modifications when they had it tested and mention the car your "friend" had their car passed here (mentioning the make and model of the car) to see if they do you the same favor for a nominal fee. |
