2012 Yaris L Stock Head Unit Upgrade

Hi all!

I have a 2012 Yaris L and I would like to get bluetooth connectivity for phone calls and streaming music.

I swapped the factory head to the "premium" factory head (PT546-52121) but bluetooth does not show up in the menu. I've read something that a microphone needs to be connected in order for this to work. Can anyone advise?

Thank you!

Interesting. I remember that I installed a microphone on my Scion OEM headunit but I don't recall if that was a prerequisite for BT connectivity. There is a "navigation microphone" on the radio parts diagram (86250-0D030 or 86250-52070) for the 2012-2014 but I don't see any separate wiring harnesses.

I am suspecting that I am missing some sort of bluetooth module that the L trim does not have from the factory. My steering wheel does not have any buttons, so maybe that's the missing link. My two theories is that the steering wheel button assembly has something to do with BT not working with the head unit OR the microphone needs to be installed. It sure is frustrating. Any help is welcome!

This thread suggests that you do in fact need the microphone for BT to work:

Has the part numbers for a different model but should get you in the right direction.

Thank you, I'll try to connect a mic to the head unit tonight and see if the BT pops up!
