Losing control of a car due to defectice parts can be life threatening . They are called control arms , must be a reason why .

This might help for people out of warranty.
It sounds just like a problem on my Smart car, the fix for that is to lubricate the suspension bushings. Basically the rubber will stick until there is enough torque, and then suddenly jump back to it's proper shape. Try the following:
Wash the area behind the wheel with a pressure washer(blindly spray with the wheel still on). Then jack up the car and hit all the bushing with a lot of WD40. Let it sit for 15 min, then drive it around the block. Then apply some grease(I just use spray on lithium) in another heavy coat. I do this where the control arm attaches to the hub, and to the body of the car, and hit the swaybar link bushings, and steering rod at the hub at the same time.

Took it in and they couldn't hear the clunk for a 5 mile drive . Then put it on the lift and said all looks good and the bolts are rusted but that's normal for the N.E.. Won't go back until it clunks most or all the time .

Thanks rockland. I have yet to mention the specific tsb to my dealership but I've mentioned a clunk the last four times I've been in. I'm at 27000miles too. They drove it 25 miles and said couldn't reproduce . I plan on going on a specific route next time to make it obvious to them.

Anyone have an idea about what sounds like an "exhale" or swishish sound when first taking off with the wheel turned? It doesn't sound like the cvs but its also disconcerting.

The service manager also said our '08 Yaris sedan isn't included in the T.S.B.. Different VIN number than those stated in the T.S.B..

I've finally now had success regarding 0055-11. I never mentioned the specific bulletin, but took a senior tech for a drive and went to a location that I can always get the car to clunk. He pulled my vin and came to me with the bulletin, I'm after the production change but the tech said he would make a case if it did not apply to my vin. Either way, parts are ordered and hopefully this will entirely resolve the clunking.

Don't confuse luck with skill. This has been calculated. Fourth time I'm returning and every time I'd mention the problem and other problems I've noticed. Proper documentation makes it easier for them to fix it. I love my car but it has been one thing after another with it from even before I bought it and both my local dealership and the dealership where I bought it know it. I'm also still under warranty.

All that aside, yes the tech was beyond decent, I'd go so far as to say excellent. All the folks there are very professional and do what they do very well; I believe that they enjoy the work they do and have genuine concern for their customers.

Just got it back from the dealer. Feels tighter and smoother over bumps. I don't know how hard it would be to do this yourself but I caught a peek at what the cost was for Toyota and I am so glad this was taken care of under warranty.

Control arm issue for other manufacturers :

1.) JEEP Liberty SUVs ; '04 > '05
2.) SUBARU ; Impreza 02 > '07 , Forester '03 > '08
3.) SAAB ; 9-2X '05 > '06

Seen it on this weeks MOTORWEEK . Here's the article , http://www.motorweek.org/auto_news/m...ws/winter_woes . Be nice if TOYOTA would just do a RECALL and not a T.S.B. that puts it in the hands of the dealer service center staff to make the call . That way , we could get something accomplished .
