Weight In Rear Of LB Help Snow Driving?

Does adding weight to the rear of the LB help handling on snowy roads?

Would lighten the fron too much, IMHO, so No, it would harm handling in the snow. Weight over the driving wheels is the only useful thing.

Well I dont know about his place but here, any snow is considered a snowstorm, haha.... we over-react terribly to snow and tend to close down everything :p

we just had a snow storm in Vancouver at christmas time, i know it's not much compare to some other place we had alike around 30cm of snow, my car is only 4 months old with stock tire, it handles great in snow, no add on needed.

40 > 50 lb. bag of salt couldn't hurt . Just wrapped a 50 lb. bag of calcium chloride ( $6.98 ) in clear plastic garbage bag and sealed with clear packing tape , so not to get all over trunk and keep moisture out . Then place it in the trunk positioned in middle of inner tirewells up against back of seats so over wheels for even distrubition of weight . Plan to put it in the night before any snow / ice is predicted and remove when conditions improve . Thanks to weather channel and doppler radar's help .

Adding ballast on the floor of the passenger side would likely be more effective.
Loading the rear may be counter-productive since drive, steering and a majority of the braking is performed by the front wheels.

Thats what i thought... put the weight over the driving wheels..... this would be true for a rear wheel drive, but not for most of our cases.

If you're climbing in the snow, you'll need the weight up front. Yaris already has an healthy amount of grip at the rear (for a lightweight car).

Yaaa, like they said. I live on a snow covered dirt road (Ice) and my Yaris drives fine with the addition on my Blizzaks. The only reason I got them is due to the lack of starting and stopping traction of the stock Bridgestones. They handled snow just fine, but not the packed snow/ice I have to drive everyday.

when we did motor route with the '08 L.B. the weight of the papers stacked up on back seat and some behind the seat helped give extra traction on snow / ice covered back roads . The average extra weight was usually 60 lbs. or so . Used studded tires all the way around as well .

I don't see how it'll be any worse though. There are bigger cars that would run on the same series tires, and probably handle a bit better.

Take out your rear seats, and toss out that spare tire that you'll never use.

Proceeed to drive into turns at speeds over 70mph and rip that hand brake!

No. Good snow tires help a great deal.
