2007 yards starting issue
I have 158,000 trouble free miles on the car and today it developed a starting issue. Usually it starts after a few spin overs now it takes longer to start. It is doing it after the car sits a few hours. So it normally starts da da da vroom. Now it sometimes starts da da da da da da da vroom.
I changed the plugs at 125,000 miles. I don't think the car has a fuel filter other than the one on the fuel pump. Air filter was changed 7000 miles ago. No engine light. I am not sure where to start looking. |

Battery on its last legs would be my guess, unless you come back and say you've recently replaced it. If it is the original Panasonic, then it is 10 years old and has more than served its time.

Long cranking at startup start starting
Not enough usage to say w/ Yaris, but most of my Japanese cars have shown intermittent long cranking under certain hot restarts...not 5 minutes or 5 hours off, but something in between. I figure either fuel control system sensors not in soak-down sync w/ actual mixture needs and/or fuel line contents getting sucked back to tank via bypass and/or vapor recovery systems. Never did anything about it.

I put a new battery in the car this year the original was getting weak. The starter is not turning over weakly like a weak battery. It is turning over fast like normal just a bit more rotations than normal to start.
With that said this morning 40 degree cold start, the car started normally. The long cranking issue started yesterday at lunch then 4 hours later for the drive home. After that no more problems so far. I will see at lunch time if it does it again. We drive the car every day so it is not a lack of usage. |

My guess is you might have a leaking injector bleeding fuel. This does two things. One is slightly flood the restart and two, it drops the fuel pressure so the pump has to re pressurize the system. Blipping the key to start will turn the fuel pump on for a few seconds. Then try starting. |
