Question Front Brakes, What's your "go to" brand and why?

Curious what everyone's "Go To" Brand of brakes were. I'm going to be in need of replacements soon, so I figured, new brakes and rotors are in order. I normally just go with ACDelco or Raybestos. Figured I'd put the question to the boards.

What say you?

I put the cheapest rotors you can find on RockAuto. Some do that with Hawks pads, but I went with the cheapest ceramic pads.

I also use the cheapest which around here is Centrix.
Ceramic pads and rotors. Rotors are made in Mexico or China depending.

Cheapest rotors and semi-metallic pads I can find (eBay did me well this time, 'bout $75 US shipped). Semi-metallic might not have the lasting power nor stopping power of ceramic, but they don't grind up the rotors as fast and I like getting a cheap brake job done the next time. And I'm one of those people that manages to warp rotors... :D

You manage to warp rotors cos u use cheap parts ....I drive my little car hard and never had a problem but do use Toyota rotos and pads and maintain my brakes always.

I figure it's best to cheap out on pads, and to spend good money on rotors/drums. Rotors can be turned whereas pads are replacement parts.

Interesting. I'm currently using some cheap rotors, and I've gone through 50% of my raybestos ceramics and they are well, now due for a change soon. I changed them the first time at 86k km because they were rusting and the pads no longer touched the entire surface.

I'm now at 156k km and I've done tons of short stop & go trips since. I'm just hanging on a little bit longer before swapping in the centric rotors and ceramic pads I got from RockAuto. We will see how this works out. I just didn't want to spend too much money on cars lately, the Yaris is getting old and the Civic is even older and both are requiring some work done. :(

Only time in 40 years of driving Ive had to change rotors is when a caliper seized. Rotors last me forever even my motorcycles....150k not uncommon.

But then again I grew up working on farms where machinery wasnt abused.

Toyota pads for me. Last longest which should be the life of the car.

First time I ever had to replace rotors was last spring on my Echo. The were pulsing and I noticed some brake pad on them so I resurfaced them myself with a grinder. ran good for 2 weeks until it came back. The rotor was down to half the thickness and even less on the inside of both (caliper piston side). Replaced with new ones and the pulsating never came back.

The car had about 330,00km on it at that point so i can't complain, the lack of width was creating excess heat which was causing the pads to burn onto the rotors creating the severe pulsating. Normally I never replace rotors unless there is a problem like what I experienced above.

Centric published a TSB about pulsation. In which they stated the warpage is usually not
the problem with a pulse. They gave a number of other reasons.
Rotors are cheap and are cheap insurance.
Not like the Brembo on the bike, when I missed changing the pads.

the issue I had wasn't due to warpage, it was too little metal caused excess heat buildup which burnt pads on rotor. The pad residue would grab the pad more causing the pulsating

I'll check that out when i have my set installed. I mean at <100$ for 2 rotors and pads included. I can't even get a single OEM rotor for that price...

We've been using the Napa premium pads at work, they match oem pad material & come with hardware. When it come to rotors, Ill just machine the rotors. They're much better quality then the cheap new rotors.

OEM must be serious crap then, because I warped the rotors on a brand new Toyota Corolla within 8 months of purchase. :) I usually get 2+ years out of the cheap eBay junk.

Not sure what to get if I want to avoid it, since Toyota makes trash rotors. Slotted and drilled willwood, I suppose! Nahhh... *much* cheaper to just put on fresh junk every 2 years instead!

Toyota makes good parts for anyone to warp rotors this fast maybe one should change there driving habits first cos it wont matter what u use ...2 yrs on my Toyota rotors and they are perfect ,even wear and no issues at all.

I find ppl like to blame parts but in all honesty its 95% operator's fault for stuff going early and luck of maintenance.
