Voltage regulator or new Alternator?

My wife's 2013 Yaris is only charging at slightly above 12v. I had it tested and was told battery was fine but regulator in the alternator was bad.Has anyone taken one apart and replaced just the regulator? The car has 173k miles on it so i am thinking it would just be best to replace the entire unit.Or would it be ok to just replace the regulator? I have np taking it apart if so.

That being said,I am currently furloughed and trying to save where I can.Is there a brand suggested?

Thanks!

Try cleaning the voltage regulator.
You can try a re builder but the price maybe the same as a complete rebuild.
CT Scott was advertising a used one for $35 in the for sale section.

Good advice by nortonfb. If it were me, I'd pick up CTScott's alternator. You can be guaranteed that, since it comes from him, it will be in great shape and fully functional. When my charging started failing, I had my voltage regulator out and could see the obvious corrosion that they are known for. I just replaced the unit with a CarQuest reman and it's worked flawlessly for years now. I think it might even have a limited lifetime warranty.
