NCP10 Echo cutting through some Trackday traffic

Took my Echo for a run at a trackday event and had a blast.

It's a New Zealand new NCP10 Echo 3 door.

With RS front brakes, Bilstein springs, ITB setup, Link G4+ ECU and some cheap second hand 14" wheels and tyres.

Still standard shocks and drum brakes on the back.

Was heaps of fun, I think with a rear swaybar it would be perfect.
I was amazed at how fun the handling was with such minimal mods.

I didnt think it would be as much fun as it was, cant wait to get out to some more events with it.

I've got a C56+torsen and a Prius C motor+cams swap in the works, I've got most of the parts ready but it will still be a while off yet.

Awesome! Always fun to see the Yaris/Echo out there kicking ass. Why the Prius C motor instead of the Yaris 1NZ?

Mainly for the high compression ratio and electric water pump.

But also because it's the newest motor with lowest km on available motors

(One I bought has 50,000km on it, and was $400 with absolutely everything included)

Gotcha. What was the pace car? Kind of looked like a GRMN Yaris??

That was my fav motor, but there is very little clearance on the pistons for more cam duration so you may need to lock out VVTI. Also when you rev it to 7k you'll get ring flutter and burn some oil due to the ring tension being so light.

Yep will definitely need to do some careful checks on valve timing.

This motor has very low km (~50,000) and I've been doing some reading about the oil ring issue.

I wonder if this is caused in part by not just the low friction oil control rings, but how they get driven in a prius also.

As in, a lot of the time the motor doesnt run at all, and then you get lots of low load running.

I'm hoping this will be low enough km that putting lots of load on it and with good oil will keep the rings freed up.

Eventually I'll put some beefier rods in it, so probably makes sense to put normal 1NZ oil control rings on the pistons. But hopefully it will be not to bad in the meantime.
