A belt tension gauge should be used to check the tension on the belt and to insure it is with in spec...

where the belt is stretched between the farthest pulleys, push down on it it shouldn't move maybe 1/2" to 3/4" down ---any more and add tension...... |

The dealer actually notified me that mine was leaking when I went in to do that Seat belt tensioner recall. They covered it then (40,000 mi), not sure if i would be now(71000 mi).

'easier' is not necessarily correct. same with bolt torque. if you do not have the correct tools, you have no business in the engine compartment (not -you-, I mean anyone) anyhow, water pumps do fail and they are easy to replace. they should last >180,000 though |

Hey, is there a water pump lube from toyota or coolant conditioner to add at say 30k miles? - I hear all these problems are from the long life coolant. My Rav4 WP puked at 50k miles too ;(

I just had my water pump replaced today @ 33K miles. The car turns 3 years old this month. Kind of disappointing. The underside of my hood looked exactly as shown in the picture.

I think a Yaris is good but it doesnt appear to enjoy the stellar reliability of its forerunner the ECHO. Never heard of this wp issue with the ECHO and its even the same engine. Some have said the L life coolant is to blame. Does anyone know if any other Toyotas having wp issues? Wife has a Camry with 60k and so far so good.
