Had bumper repainted 2 weeks ago - can I wax/seal it?
Didn't know if the paint needed a certain amount of time to cure. Looks like the body shop probably did already since the rest of the car was waxed/detailed when I got it back.

No need to wait a month to wax it. Plus your paint job and repairs would be guaranteed. As with any paint job new and old, be sure not to burn through it using an orbital.

Called the shop and the secretary up front had no idea what I was asking and said 6 months... although I really don't trust that. I repeatedly asked her to talk to someone who was in paint or a manager and she couldn't, well, manage to do that. I'm 18 days out and since I have the entire car detailed (like hardcore, multi day detailing) I was hoping to do the front bumper as well! |

I personally am friends with a half dozen body shops and painters. They would all pretty much tell you that 1 month is a minimum. I would be super surprised if they had waxed a newly painted panel.

I would advise having a 3m clear bra installed to avoid chips and another paint job. I have 72,000 miles on my 2010 and it looks like the day I bought it. Great investment.

I'll certainly look into that though... is it just a clear adhesive? Does it get chipped itself just without going through to the paint? This thing: http://www.invisiblemask.com/cgi-bin...&series=3+DOOR Last edited by firebird1999us; 09-04-2014 at 11:51 AM. |

It comes in pre cut kits or by the roll. I did my hood and fenders myself. However, I had the bumper done by a pro. When I had my 08, I did the bumper myself....but the Yaris bumper is a tough one to do since it has so many seams etc. Needless to say it was a train wreck when I was done. You can google 3m clear bra for more info....the link below is one I found just now. The paint does not fade any different and can be waxed the same way as the rest of the car. You can remove it anytime without hurting the paint.

Yeah I'm seriously considering the 3m stuff now that I've researched it a little... I've probably got a hood repaint coming in the next year so I'll likely do it then on the hood, headlights, and front bumper. I think I've got more touchup paint than factory paint on the hood right now thanks to atlanta roads

Meguiars has a product for freshly painted cars. You can peruse their online catalog, or do what I would: call them and speak to a tech guy.
