Temp guage and compass in Rear view mirror

I want to put a Rear view mirror with a Temp guage and compass in it and found this one (see link below) in the accessories section for the corrola. Does anyone here know how these things work. I'm betting that it is a complete package that includes the temp sensor and compass in one complete unit (just add power). if so, do you think it would work on the Yaris? I have never added options like this to any cars I have had before and I'm hoping that someone here works for Toyota and maby would know.

i am not entirly positive, but i belive i read somewhere, that they have these mirors available in canada for the yaris, and also i think that i read somewhere to install the temp sensor you have to remove the front bumper.

that is what i remember reading, not sure how correct it is, but might give you something more to look at

here, found this from toyota nation http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t138461.html

Or you can visit www.toyota.ca first. I have a rear view mirror with a compass on my Yaris. Apart from having a compass, the mirror also dims automatically. I do not have the temperature gauge though. I consider the extra hundred dollars or so too much.
I think the prices listed on the Toyota site include dealer installation but do not include taxes.

So they sell it with out the tepm guage. Thats good, bcause I can tell myself how hot or cold it is. Thanks for the info. With the yaris being low to the ground i'll need the auto dimming mirror to keep from getting blinded from all those SUV's and trucks.

You are very welcome! Get one and enjoy!
As for the outside temperature, I have a strange thought which I may try out later. I have seen some sticker type thermomters (not the glass tube type, but flat and thin as paper, colored, and transparent, can look like a fridge magnet) which are sold in tropical fish shops for use inside fish tanks. They are small, cheap and should naturally be water proof. One day, I may buy one and stick it onto the side of my windshield from the outside (well, inside should be more practical, though less accurate). I may even patch it with some transparent sticker (I don't know the technical name) for better protection. If it sticks to the glass wall of a fish tank, it shoud stick to my windshield and be able to tell me the outside temperature. Its limited range does not cover icy temperatures though. Another problem is how to make it look neat.
Well, just a strange thought. May waste me a few dollars.

Auto Dimming Rear Mirror

FYI, this item is now on sale from TRD Sparks for $109.74 (regularly priced at $140.74).

http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...3&parts_id=998

I checked with our local Toyota stealership and they wanted over C$200 + taxes for the same part!
Easy decision; ordered one this AM from TRD Sparks!
