Question TURBO DIY...

HEY PIPZ! Just want to know what parts I need to properly install a TURBO for a Yaris (including suspension/brakes) I just want it to go about 210HP and hoping for more torque so I can actually try making it faster on the corners...

I'll have my friend to order me a turbo and some other parts in the Philippines from Japan, and just do it myself, I'll probably save a bunch of money .. by doing that/ also their asking me how big of a TURBO do I need? he said the Turbo unit actually cost $80-200 brand new...

Im actually asking you this so I can experiment with my brand new car and tell you about it, maybe we can save alot of money if we order from there...

The only thing that might cost alot I guess is the E-manage it cost too much there... maybe its cheaper in Taiwan and maybe Etimago can help us with the ordering....

ANYWAYZ THANX PIPZ!!!

210HP... Be prepared for new Internals (Cams, Pistons) New Clutch and Flywheel... Along with the Turbo, Inter-cooler, Cold Air Intake, Pipes, Coil-Overs, Dampers, Rims, Tires, LSD, ECU retard, and a new engine after you blow the car up your first day at the Track!

210HP on a car that weighs less then a TON...

Your looking at about $8,000 - $10,000

Plus the price of the car...$13,000ish

$21 - $23 Grand

Next time buy a TC!

Seen in an Australian workshop:

LABOUR RATES
--------------

$75 per hour if we do it
$85 per hour if you watch us do it
$100 per hour if you want to help us with it
$200 per hour if we have to fix up the mess you made trying to do it yourself

*note: prices are relative and do not imply actual costs.

I actually turboed a car back 5years ago on a carburated 1.3 liter engine. we did pretty good, but its still not enough to race that 85 LEVIN at our place....

it only cost me $1200 plus some dinner for some of my friends who helped me for a day... it made 120HP at the Dyno... revs up to 9000RPM and I only used it for 5weeks because I went to the US and the engine went rusty after 2 yrs before I used it again...

It slow to me after I drove a friends 240SX "without the pop-up headlight" dunno how fast it is but I spent time going sideways at an empty parking lot at a mall... when I got here... (FYI where not friends anymore though) so 120 hp on a 1000 KG is nothing now. but still its faster than my corolla now.... LOL! even my civic hatchback back then... I still drive it when I get a vacation....

Then, by all means, give it a try

But remember these newfangled high-efficiency engines are a lot more finicky than an ol' carburated engine. You do get what you pay for when you let experts do it, but if you really want to learn, then there certainly is no better way than trial and error

hp & cheap does not go together. Why is it that everyone wants alot of power & spend no $? ppl if you want power you have to spend the $. If you cant spend $ dont buy a car that has 100hp. I am certain nobody is going to make a S/C or Turbo kit for less than $3000. That is not including the exhuast & clutch kit. You want cheap power, buy a nitrous kit.

yea and seriously......ur asking for trouble......its like taking a new N/A gt mustang and wanting 600HP out of it, doubling the horse power takes a lot more than just throwing in forced induction like someone said up there.......the upgrade in other parts to handle that much HP will probably cost u twice as much as the turbo.......

If you want fast for cheap, get a bike.

I really think you'd be better off doing an engine swap in order to get 200+ rather than trying to hold that poor little 1.3 together with that much boost.

Love my car, but it is what it is. 130-140HP is probably what you are looking at safely (i.e. dumping about $5k into it and making it reasonable to believe it will last more than 10k miles before exploding like a frog on a hot plate).

Just sell it and get a NorthStar V8 modded Fiero lol...

Forget about horsepower. Focus on what she does on the skidpad.

yea i think our car with like 150-160 wold be perfect......were all obviously not buying it for the horsepower, but i think 150 horses in a 2200-2300 lb car would do what we all wish it was doing.

if your serious......go get yourself a cheap civic hatch maybe a 96 or something, gut it (can get it probably under 2200lbs), and drop a b18c1 in, turbo it, lsd tranny....if that doesnt make u happy i dont know what will

you can't expect 210hp(even if it's at the crank, but i think you meant at the wheels) and not pay a lot of money. yes you can builda turbo kit for around $1500 with ebay parts but you can't expect the engine to be pushed pass it's limits.
good luck!

Buy an old 91-93 240sx, gut it, do a sr20det swap then go to town. Tons of aftermarket parts and the sr20 can easily push 300 whp with simple bolt ons.

What was the point of that...especially since we're on a Yaris forum?

Not trying to be a jerk though.
